“Ah, shut up, shut up, shut up!” Aunt Mao suddenly lunged forward, trying to cover the man’s mouth.
The man kicked her away, “What’s gotten into you?”
“You’re lying, you’re lying! My daughter is Duan Yi, not… not…” Aunt Mao snarled.
The man was also startled, “So, you still care more about your own biological daughter. Are you afraid the truth will come out? Don’t worry, I’m not that foolish. I’m quite satisfied with my life now, so I don’t plan to say anything. But if you make me unsatisfied, don’t blame me for running my mouth at the Qin Family.”
Aunt Mao went completely mad, lashing out at him with such force that she nearly knocked the man down.
Outside the window, Duan Yi, who had been secretly watching all of this, trembled uncontrollably, nearly falling from the third floor.
Her blood felt like it was flowing backward, her breath caught in her throat, and her ears rang with a deafening buzz. The truth struck her like a tidal wave, leaving her mind blank. Then came an overwhelming surge of joy, followed by rage, the two emotions intertwining and tormenting every nerve in her body.
She didn’t know what to do. The world seemed to spin around her. Watching the woman inside—who had always been too afraid to stand up to the man—finally fight back, Duan Yi could only muster a bitter, mocking smile.
Of course, she thought. A child who isn’t your own isn’t worth loving. But your own flesh and blood? Not a single word can be said against them.
“If you keep hitting me, I’ll go straight to the Qin Family and spill everything. I mean it, don’t push me!” the man roared.
Aunt Mao instantly deflated, “Shh, shh, keep it down!”
The man smirked triumphantly, “Behave yourself. I’m your husband. How dare you hit your own man? Don’t you want to live peacefully?”
In her panic, Aunt Mao quickly came up with a counter, “You… you’re my husband, so… if you dare say anything, I’ll tell everyone it was all your idea, that you forced me into it. After all, everyone knows I’ve always obeyed you at home.”
The man’s eyes widened in shock, “You…”
“So it’s you who needs to behave. If this secret gets out and I’m arrested, you’ll be the mastermind! You’re a gambler, aren’t you? Planning to use this secret to blackmail the Qin Family Eldest Miss in the future? Does that sound reasonable?” Aunt Mao laughed coldly.
The man chuckled bitterly, “You really would do anything for your daughter, wouldn’t you?”
Aunt Mao calmed down and said, “As long as you behave, I’ll keep supporting you and our son with my salary. But don’t you dare touch my daughter! As for Duan Yi… you can marry her off if you want. I won’t interfere.”
Marrying her off might be for the best, she thought. That way, she wouldn’t keep going to the Qin Family, which was too risky. Besides, the man might slip up and reveal the truth. Once she was married, everything would be settled. And in the future, when Tiantian married into a good family thanks to her status, even if the truth came out, it wouldn’t matter anymore. She could go to prison with peace of mind.
The man sneered, “You really are heartless. After raising her for so many years, I thought I was shameless enough, but you… tsk tsk tsk… you’d really do anything for your own daughter.”
Aunt Mao suddenly exploded in anger, “And whose fault is that? It’s because of you! You tricked me into thinking you were a decent man worth trusting, so I married you while I was pregnant. But all you wanted was a son, not a daughter. Don’t think I didn’t know—you and that old fool were already planning to sell my daughter. Even if I managed to protect her, you would’ve made her life a living hell. I couldn’t let my precious daughter suffer like that.”
The man laughed mockingly, “Stop shifting the blame. I didn’t do anything. If you really loved your daughter, you could’ve taken her and left. You’re just making excuses to give her a better life.”
Hearing his taunts, Aunt Mao’s eyes turned red, but she didn’t argue back.
By then, the figure on the air conditioner outside had disappeared.
Duan Yi didn’t know how she made it back to her room. She had relied on sheer willpower to suppress her emotions, locking them away like a volcano waiting to erupt. She knew now wasn’t the time to explode. If she did, she might never reclaim her life.
She had to go there… to the Qin Family… to take back everything that was rightfully hers!
Yes, it was hers. All the beauty, all the privilege—it was hers. She shouldn’t have to envy anyone. She should be the one others envied!
Clenching her teeth and gripping herself tightly, she waited until the commotion next door had died down and everyone had gone to sleep. Then, in the early hours of the morning, she quietly got up, still in the disheveled state she’d been in after the beating, and slipped out of the house.
Using all the money she had, she took a taxi to the Qin Family estate.
The moment she stepped out of the car, she could no longer hold back her tears.
At two in the morning, the Qin Family butler was awakened by the gatekeeper, who reported that a girl was crying and demanding to see Miss Qin Tiantian.
After learning the girl’s identity, the butler frowned. It was too late to disturb the family, and he knew the girl was Aunt Mao’s daughter. He was about to bring her inside first when Qin Tiantian, holding her phone, emerged from the new building.
Seeing the butler, she said sleepily, “Xiao Yi asked me to come get her. She said something happened and needs my help.”
The butler had no choice but to accompany the young lady as the car brought Duan Yi inside.
When the car arrived and the door opened, Duan Yi practically leaped out, rushing straight toward Qin Tiantian.
Her aggressive stance made the butler instinctively step in front of Qin Tiantian to shield her.
Qin Tiantian, now wide awake, asked in alarm, “What’s wrong, Xiao Yi?”
Duan Yi stared at Qin Tiantian, her eyes wide. This was a girl who had been showered with love and wealth from head to toe, a stark contrast to Duan Yi’s own disheveled appearance.
Duan Yi forced a bitter smile, her expression twisting into something fierce and menacing.
“Qin Tiantian, I hate you!”
The butler’s face changed, and Qin Tiantian was completely stunned.
Duan Yi spat out each word like a knife, shouting, “Qin Tiantian, you stole my life! You and your shameless mother stole my life! I am the Qin Family Eldest Miss! I am the daughter of Sixth Master Qin and Madame! You’re just the daughter of a servant! You stole my life! You don’t belong to the Qin Family! You stole my life!”
