Chapter 1291: Fat
Khan hovered in space, watching the maimed ship getting farther and farther away at high speed, the absence of friction force or functioning thrusters preventing its deceleration.
It didn’t take long before Khan lost sight of the vessel, but he still didn’t move. He drew an unusually thick phone from his torn trousers’ pocket, checking one of its functions to make sure he didn’t kick the three Niqols to their deaths.
One of the Nognes family’s checkpoints was relatively nearby, and the same went for Khan’s ship, so his device could coordinate with their scanners to triangulate the Niqols’ vessel position and advance.
According to the phone, the Niqols’ ship would enter the outpost’s range in a day or two. Khan’s troops could rescue it at that point, alongside the other two vessels that had suffered from the same fate just a few minutes ago.
‘This is done, too,’ Khan thought, checking his ship’s location before storing his phone and shooting at full speed toward it.
Space didn’t have mana that Khan could sense. The still-distant Nak’s home world served as a blinding and deafening landmark that prevented him from losing his sense of direction, and the mental connection with Liiza always told him her general location.
However, Garret couldn’t let his Prince rely solely on those alien abilities, so he built a device that could sync with the special ship and the various checkpoints. The device was also the best chaos-resistant item humankind had ever built to date, which explained how it had survived those three months of travel.
‘I mean, it should be three months,’ Khan pondered, scratching his head while flying through the empty blackness, ‘But even Zalpa isn’t sure when exactly the baby will come.’
Khan still felt strange at the idea of becoming a father. Still, the matter had become undeniable in those three months, and the unusual, small triangular ship that eventually appeared in his view carried the reason for that.
The ship that Garret and his scientists had built for that difficult mission was black and rather flat. It had no visible canopy, but tiny sealed gaps littered its hull, ready to open at Khan’s order.
Khan approached the motionless vessel’s back to cross its small entrance, entering the cramped, tiny cargo area featuring similar but open gaps on its surfaces. Those cavities acted as the other end of the hull’s sealed holes, creating channels that could connect the ship’s insides to the outside world.
That was the main requirement for the mission. The blue lightning storm raging among the asteroids could interfere with any scanner’s functioning, and chances were that no amount of processing power could draw a safe path through it.
Khan had to sense the storm and pilot the ship accordingly, making those gaps necessary. The vessel also had to be nimble, forcing Garret to limit its storage capabilities and overall size. Except for the cargo area, the vehicle only had two additional places, and they were both rather small.
The ship’s peculiarities didn’t end there, but Garret had nothing to do with the next one. Red symbols marked each surface, stretching into the bridge and narrow living quarters. It was unclear which dangers the voyage would feature, so Liiza had opted to make the vessel Khan-proof rather than suppressing his presence.
Khan crossed the cumbered cargo area he had just refilled on the outpost and entered the bridge, ignoring the sealed door to the living quarters that Zalpa had monopolized.
The triangular bridge’s surfaces featured the same red symbols and open gaps, but Khan couldn’t focus on them. He only glanced at the messy, makeshift bed on the floor before approaching the cold figure in the pilot’s seat.
“[Hey, beautiful],” Khan called, peeking past the seat’s back. “[Did you miss me]?”
A white light shone on Khan’s face but failed to hide the cute pout behind it. Liiza looked annoyed, but her hands remained sealed on the visibly bloated waist covered by a thick, oversized hoodie.
“[I’m cold],” Liiza whined.
“[I know, I know],” Khan whispered, leaning down to leave a quick kiss on Liiza’s lips before kneeling in front of the seat to do the same with her belly.
“[How did our little pest behave]?” Khan asked, pretending to talk with Liiza’s belly. “[Did you mistreat Mama again]?”
“[She knows when Papa isn’t around],” Liiza said, taking the warm hands on her belly. “[She always kicks harder when you aren’t with me].”
That was proof that no one could deny. The baby had started to move during the trip and had only become stronger throughout the months, highlighting the new life growing inside Liiza.
That proof didn’t stop at the baby’s kicks. Khan clearly sensed him or her now. A warm, irrefutable presence shone inside Liiza’s cold body, helping the condition caused by her love for Khan but also bringing beautiful curses.
“[Did you start calling me beautiful because you don’t find me attractive anymore]?” Liiza asked, showing a smile that her increasingly colder hands didn’t match.
“[Did you forget what beautiful means]?” Khan teased.
“[Then],” Liiza continued, pulling Khan’s hands to make him stand up and lean toward her, “[Why haven’t we had sex in over a month]?”
“[You heard Zalpa],” Khan reminded, mimicking the old Niqols’ hoarse voice. “[You horny kids don’t know what restraint is. You’ll risk hurting the baby].”
Liiza diverted her gaze, snorting. “[That old hag is just jealous and doesn’t want to hear us. I’m sure we’d be fine].”
Khan leaned even further, placing his forehead on Liiza’s face before adding another reminder. “[You made me promise I’d keep both of us in check].”
Liiza released Khan’s hands to cross her arms before snorting again, but her voice sounded far shyer now. “[It’s not because I’m fat, is it]?”
Khan held back a sigh. That wasn’t his first time dealing with that conversation, so he knew what worked and what didn’t.
Truth be told, Liiza was nowhere near fat. If anything, despite her bloated belly, she had gotten thinner due to all the nutrients the baby demanded. Still, telling her that wouldn’t do any good. Khan had already tested that.
“[You know how I feel whenever I look at you],” Khan whispered in Liiza’s ear. “[I’ll play the good Dad and Husband a little longer. Once the baby is born, I’ll lock us up somewhere for a whole year].”
“[The baby will need us],” Liiza said, exploding into a laugh. “[I’ll have to recover and feed her].”
Khan rolled his eyes, his glowing gaze ending up on Liiza’s belly again. He caressed it but pretended to be annoyed.
“[Little man, you are lucky I love you],” Khan complained, lowering his voice while leaning toward Liiza’s belly, pretending to whisper to it. “[And I owe you for giving your Mama a great rack].”
Liiza laughed again but suddenly grunted in pain, and Khan knew why. His hand was still on her belly, so he felt the abrupt bump from inside it.
“[Are you okay]?” Khan promptly asked, reaching for Liiza’s cheek.
“[I’m fine],” Liiza reassured, a genuine smile forming on her face, alongside a light blush. “[You don’t have to ask every time. You know how I feel].”
“[Nothing will ever stop me from checking up on you],” Khan declared, moving his gaze back to Liiza’s belly. “[As for you …].”
Khan pretended to be in a scolding mood, but the words that escaped his mouth didn’t even come close to that. “[I know you want to tell me that you are a boy, but we agreed to keep it a secret from Mama until you are born].”
Khan’s fatherly behavior worsened Liiza’s unfulfilled desire, but she limited herself to biting her lip. The reminder that they had to hold back pissed her, but the life growing inside her womb made all of that worth it.
“[Come here, dummy],” Liiza sweetly requested, making room on the seat for Khan. He didn’t hesitate to join her, letting her climb on his lap.
“[I’m hungry],” Liiza sighed, closing her eyes and hiding her face in Khan’s neck. “[And I just came back from the bathroom, but I have to go again].”
“[I’ll set the route, and we’ll eat],” Khan nodded, reaching for the control desk. “[I’ll also plan more landings to restock supplies more often].”
“[Husband],” Liiza called while Khan tinkered with the menus.
“[Wife]?” Khan casually asked.
“[Wouldn’t it be faster if you used both hands]?” Liiza questioned, opening her eyes to look at the scarred, warm fingers clinging to her chest.
“[I don’t know what you are talking about],” Khan said, feigning ignorance. “[I never once had two hands in my entire life].”
More laughs resounded in Khan’s ear, which he couldn’t help but echo. Still, his hand remained on Liiza’s chest even after he lifted her to carry her to the cargo area.
