Death... and me

Chapter 3599: Meaningless Confidence

Chapter 3599: Meaningless Confidence

For the twins’ group, it took them around twenty minutes to go from the shore to the dome. The other sphere teams seemed to have taken a similar time, so everyone waited the first ten minutes without caring much. If that new sphere team would appear, that would be after ten minutes at least.

Yet, twenty minutes went by, then thirty, then forty...

"Sigh..." Grititi shook his head. Too much time had passed already. "Seems like whoever got to this island has died for the Red Smoke."

The others nodded. They knew that forty minutes was way too much.

In the twins’ sphere case, their sphere could have resisted for around an hour, but that’s because they had Celis. Celis always managed to destroy the monsters in a single blow using the sphere’s energy. Over the four-month period, that saved A LOT of energy. The other sphere teams had a lot more trouble doing the same thing... or so the twins’ group believes.

Yet, by the 46-minute mark, a sphere shot out of the Red Smoke, entering the dome. Its experts all seemed to be in tattered states, but they pushed forward, even on the verge of collapse.

"Hey, would you look at that! They actually made it!" Kentucky laughed, finding their state funny.

The newcomers looked at the groups ahead, and their eyes turned cold. They were all in terrible condition, and now various other sphere teams could be seen ahead. What if they were attacked right at this moment?

Of course, such a thing didn’t happen. The other teams needed these guys, after all. "You better not wait much longer. Take a look behind."

The new team did that, and they saw the Red Smoke following their own gray light line, coming after them. "What do we do?" There was no other choice, so they simply asked straight.

"Let your sphere move to its own slot. The gray light line will bring it there. As long as you do that, it will counter the Red Smoke that is coming after you," Rean explained with a smile.

Sure enough, they did as told and slotted their sphere. The same event happened, and the Red Smoke coming after them was forced back out of the dome as the gray light line used by their sphere disappeared. They sighed in relief, but their attention was still on the other groups, even if they didn’t attack. "What is this place? What are we supposed to do here?"

"We wish we knew the answer to that," the Fish Demon gave the same answer as he did to the twins. His name was Hian, as mentioned, from Universe F952.

The inscriptions under the new team’s sphere worked, absorbing all the remaining energy of their sphere. So far, it seemed like nothing different. But then...

*Zup!*

Above the ring construction at the center, which the six spheres were surrounding, Divine Energy began to circulate. A few seconds later, it showed a big projection and, inside, several words. It was quite magical, as the words there were written in a way that anyone who looked at it could understand, even if they didn’t know the language.

-You have made it this far into my beloved home.-

Royer and a few experts there nodded. It seemed like they had seen such a thing before.

-For this specific region, your endurance and teamwork were tested to their limits. If you are here, that probably means you helped each other. If you didn’t, well, that just means you are all that strong individually, which isn’t all that bad.-

-However, this is the point where you must make a choice... Or, to be more specific, one of you does.-

The twins’ group’s eyes lit up. The so-called choice they had to make finally appeared.

*Zum!*

The images in the project changed, now more words.

-As you probably noticed, your self-defense globes stopped accepting Divine Energy after they slotted themselves in their places. That’s so a score can be calculated. The amount of remaining energy dictates your final score, which also shows how well you crossed the ocean. The globe with the highest score will have the chance to choose another two globes to proceed into the next region together. As for the other three who remain, well, bad luck.-

"So these things were actually called Self-Defense Globes, uh?" Rean murmured.

Everyone was taken aback. They didn’t expect that such a thing would be done here. No fights? No competition? That was very unusual. They didn’t even know that the amount of remaining Divine Energy in their Spheres would be used as a score... except the Camazotz Bats’ Globe.

"Hehe! It’s extremely rare for this region to appear near the entrance of the Golden Palace, but it did appear before. Seems like we made the right choice to gather the right group," said Grititi. He seemed very confident his team would have the highest score here.

"What are you talking about?" Royer asked him. "Even if your Camazotz Bats knew about it, you couldn’t choose the other three groups that would drive the globe with you. I can see the experts from the other three Universes inside your globe, you know? Or are you saying you all know each other and somehow managed to enter this region together?"

"As if! Hahaha!" Grititi laughed. "These idiots in our self-defense Globe were just luck to fall in the same team as us. What I meant is that even if we had three extra weak teams, my Camazotz Bat group could have made it through this region without any problems."

"Who are you calling idiots?" A guy called Gogerliu, from F955, burst into anger. "Do you think your Universe F956 is some big shit? Even if that artifact of yours contributed the most during this region, we also helped plenty. Without that thing, you would be useless."

"Hmph!" Grititi and the other Camazotz Bats obviously didn’t agree. "A lap dog who isn’t even part of his own Universe’s controlling power. You can’t even recognize how you used your next ten million years of good luck just to be in the same Globe as us."

"You!" Gogerliu gritted his teeth, but his Universe companions stopped him. What mattered was to reach the next region, so he shouldn’t let himself be provoked here. Only then did Gogerliu relent.

"Look, the next words are changing," Riraru commented, and everyone looked at the projection about the ring.

Grititi snorted and then looked with confidence at the projection as well. The scores were going to be shown. However, his expression went from confident to utter shock a moment later. "What the hell?!"
