Chapter 384: Chapter 384 Fulfilling A Deal [1] (Please Cast Your GT Votes for support!!! Thank you for reading!!!)

The thought cast a cloud over Michael’s morning.

He didn’t need to be with his family all the time. He understood distance came with growth. But what he did want… was for them to be there. Alive. Healthy. Not fragile mortals against a world that had long since left normal behind.

“Immortality might be a selfish goal,” he muttered to himself, pushing off the bed, “but making sure the people I love stay alive? That’s just basic responsibility.”

He showered, dressed, and reviewed the plan he’d made the day before.

—Visit Mage Lian this morning.

—Head to Aurora afterward to prepare for advancement.

—The day after, speak with the Duke.

—Try understanding Beast Taming through his daughter.

—Settle into his territory.

Everything was laid out.

But for today though, it was just to visit Mage Lian and prepare for his Advancement after.

Michael left his residence.

Lia and Ace were nowhere to be seen.

He figured they were probably at their dojo, continuing their training in hopes of becoming supernaturals.

The Duke’s competition had come and gone. And though it still sent ripples through the capital, the city was gradually returning to its usual rhythm. The citizens moved with more familiarity now, their daily routines no longer overshadowed by the recent spectacle.

The only thing Michael found truly annoying… were the eyes.

They followed him everywhere—from his district to the streets of the outer city. He felt like a walking lantern, drawing attention from all directions. He didn’t need to think too hard to understand why.

The competition had made him recognizable.

No matter how much he had wanted to be low profile, he knew his actions had made that impossible. And now reality was rubbing that fact in his face.

He didn’t like it.

His mood was already cloudy from the morning’s reflection, and the constant stares only made it worse. He had no interest in a peaceful stroll anymore.

Under the watchful gazes of dozens of curious people, Michael vanished from where he stood.

A breath later, he reappeared—at a spot not far from the inner city gate.

Michael made his way to the gates while observing the guards.

On the surface, their behavior didn’t seem much different from before—when he had entered freely, thanks to his connection with Mage Lian. But Michael noticed the subtleties.

The way they stood straighter when they spotted him.

There was more sincerity in their respect now.

It wasn’t just Mage Lian’s name granting him entry anymore. It was his own.

Fame brought power, and power brought respect.

Or maybe he had it reversed.

Power brought fame. Together, they brought respect.

But then again, you could have power and fame and still have people who hated you.

The world was a strange place.

Its people, even stranger.

Michael entered the inner city without issue.

He moved with calm, deliberate steps, his black coat fluttering slightly with the breeze as he stepped deeper into the heart of the capital. The contrast between the two sides of the city was immediate.

Unlike the outer city, where people openly gawked and whispered without restraint, the inner city’s residents were more… refined in their curiosity.

They didn’t crowd or stare blatantly. They didn’t point fingers or whisper names aloud. But that didn’t mean they weren’t watching. No—Michael felt their eyes. In the subtle glances from behind half-lowered fans, the fleeting looks from passing nobles, the quickly averted gazes of guards standing at attention.

They knew who he was.

They were just better at pretending they didn’t.

Dozens of gazes lightly brushed against him like phantom touches on his back.

Michael didn’t slow his steps.

His expression was calm but uninviting. It was a look that discouraged conversation, and thankfully, it worked.

The streets of the core capital district were pristine as always. The cobblestones were spotless, the air cleaner than most other parts of the city. Well-dressed servants swept dust that barely existed, maintaining an illusion of untouched perfection.

Luxurious carriages passed by occasionally, bearing noble insignias and the quiet authority of wealth—symbols that meant everything in this part of the city.

Michael took it all in with a quiet gaze as he neared his location.

Thanks to his growing relationship with the Grand Mage, he no longer needed to wait or send word through intermediaries like the Golden Family. He could still use them, of course—but why bother when he could walk right in?

Avoiding extra interaction today was a priority.

The court building came into view soon enough.

The guards at the entrance stood him respectfully.

Michael was a little surprised that they seemed to recognize him even though they weren’t the ones he had seen here in the past.

Once again, it must be thanks to Duke Evermoon.

“Please state your business,” one of the knights said as Michael approached, though his tone lacked hostility—just protocol.

Michael didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he reached into robe and calmly brought out a token.

The moment the knights laid eyes on it, their posture shifted.

“Mage Lian’s personal token…” one of them muttered under his breath, his composure slipping.

Michael gave a small nod. “I’m here to see the Grand Mage.”

There was a beat of silence.

The older of the knights recovered first. He stepped forward, saluted with a closed fist to his chest, and extended his hand respectfully. “Permit me to confirm the token, sir.”

Michael handed it over without a word.

A second later.

“Please wait here,” the knight said quickly, already turning. “I’ll inform the Grand Mage’s staff immediately.”

He vanished through the tall double doors, leaving the remaining knights stiff as boards in front of Michael. They didn’t dare to speak. One of them even glanced away nervously when Michael met his gaze.

Michael didn’t mind the silence. In fact, he welcomed it.

A few minutes later.

Michael was met with a familiar face.

Master Yuan.
