First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 1858: Talk of Spiritual Desolation Mountain

Lin Feng was completely immersed in memories. “Eldest Senior Apprentice Brother even felt that Master had severed all worldly attachments. He was alone, above it all and detached from the world. Others could only gaze upon him from afar, but none could truly get close to him.”

He fell briefly silent before adding, “I often felt that everything in this world was beneath Master’s notice. Eldest Senior Apprentice Brother said that Master had become that way because he was deeply lonely…”

Su Yi pursed his lips thoughtfully. His fifth incarnation seemed like a passerby, void of attachments. He was mysterious and transcendent, and not even his disciples could really get close to him.

“But Master was the kindest to us,” said Lin Feng, his tone suddenly staunch. “He left his mantle for us on Spiritual Desolation Mountain without the slightest selfishness, as well as all of the treasures he’d acquired over the years. Moreover, he never demanded anything of us whatsoever!

“As I told you, before Master left the Immortal Realm, he even gave each of us one of the four Mysteries of Chaos he acquired after immense effort and sacrifice. This gift was so generous that even we, his disciples, often found it terrifying. We’re afraid to let Master down after all he put into training us.”

He suddenly looked at Su Yi. “So, how could you possibly be my master?”

Was he denying Su Yi’s identity?

No... Rather, he was confused. He wanted Su Yi to offer compelling proof.

Su Yi rubbed his nose. For a moment, he didn’t know what to say. He’d yet to fuse with his fifth incarnation’s Dao Imprint. How could he possibly explain things? He knew far less about Li Fuyou than Lin Feng.

Lin Feng said, “But at the same time, I can’t deny that you are indeed my master, because… the Sky-Covering Boat recognizes you!”

So, that was it.

Su Yi finally understood. Li Feng seemed so averse to him at first simply because he thought the disparity between the current Su Yi and his fifth incarnation was too enormous. And it wasn’t just the gap in strength. Even their dispositions and conduct were completely different. Given the circumstances, it was hard for Lin Feng to accept his identity despite the Sky-Covering Boat’s acknowledgment.

This made perfect sense. Su Yi and Li Fuyou were indeed quite different.

Lin Feng’s sharp gaze bore into Su Yi, and he said with displeasure, “Why not say anything? I shared so much with you. Shouldn’t you give me a clear answer?”

Su Yi smiled. “Before I offer proof, let me ask you this. If it turns out that I really am your master, will you be able to accept it?”

Lin Feng’s expression filled with hesitation. He truly couldn’t connect the Su Yi he saw now with the master he admired above all others.

It wasn’t that Su Yi was weak, but… his master had looked down on even the gods. How could he have become a young man like this…?

When Su Yi saw this, he said nothing. He simply flipped his hand, and the six-inch sword coffin floated into the air.

Lin Feng’s pupils constricted, and his entire body shook.

The Sword of Proximity!

There was no doubt about it. The Sky-Covering Boat wasn’t the only one to have acknowledged Su Yi. Even the Sword of Proximity had returned to its original master!

Of the Nine Mysteries of Chaos, the Sword of Proximity was the fiercest and most prideful. When Li Fuyou gave it to his eldest disciple, he had no choice but to seal it and forge a coffin to suppress its ferocity. He feared that Luo Changning would suffer a backlash otherwise.

Luo Changning himself said that if not for the coffin suppressing the sword, no Great Realm expert in the Immortal Realm could hope to even keep it under some control, let alone dominate it.

Yet now, the Sword of Proximity seemed incomparably docile in the hands of a mere Immortal King. How could Lin Feng fail to realize the implications?

But before he could say anything, Su Yi flipped his palm once more, and a command token floated into the air and transformed into a tall, stalwart Combat Soul Puppet.

The puppet’s gaze was cold and cruel, without the slightest hint of emotion.

“Uncle Lei!?” This time, Lin Feng completely lost control of his emotions. He couldn’t help but blurt, “So, you… you’re still alive! Wonderful! Wonderful!”

He was visibly overcome with delight and excitement, but Lei Ze barely reacted. He just said hoarsely, “Young Master Lin Feng, my soul is badly damaged, and my awareness is muddled. I humbly request your forgiveness if I cannot respond to you properly.”

Lei Ze was in far better shape than before, as Su Yi had sought out numerous immortal herbs useful for repairing the soul.

When Lin Feng heard the title “Young Master Lin Feng,” the rims of his eyes reddened, and he felt a twinge in his nose.

His master was almost always out exploring, and he was mysterious and elusive. Even when he was around, he was typically deep in seclusion.

It was Lei Ze who’d attended to his disciples' basic needs, down to the smallest detail. Thus, the four of them had never taken him for an unfeeling puppet. Deep within their hearts, they saw Lei Ze as a senior. How could Li Feng not be excited to see Lei Ze again now?

He took a deep breath, then said, “Uncle Lei, is that guy… really my master?”

Lei Ze said hoarsely, “Young Master Lin Feng, you cannot address Master with such disrespect. Mind your tongue.”

Lin Feng was stunned. How could he miss the implications?

Su Yi really was his master!

“No need for apologies. After all, I'm really not his master, at least not for now,” said Su Yi. “Lei Ze, turn back into a medallion and rest for now.”

“Yes, Master!” Lei Ze transformed, blurred into a beam of light, and landed in Su Yi’s hand.

Su Yi then looked at Lin Feng. “There’s no need for you to acknowledge me just yet.”

Lin Feng’s expression shifted. He opened his mouth to speak, then hesitated.

Su Yi immediately realized what he was thinking. “‘If you’re really my master, how did you wind up like this?’ is what you want to say, huh?”

Lin Feng nodded. “Exactly.”

Su Yi laughed. “Reincarnation. Simply put, in this lifetime, I’ve yet to fuse with your master’s Dao Imprint—the memories and experiences of my past life.”

Lin Feng furrowed his brow. “Why does all that sound so… strange?”

“You won’t find it strange after I’ve awakened my past life’s Dao Imprint,” said Su Yi.

Lin Feng fell silent. Su Yi said no more on the matter, either. He just calmed his heart and started tending to his wounds.

His brutal battle with Gu Yunchan and Qing Wu had left him covered in severe wounds; his entire skeleton had practically shattered, and his organs were severely damaged. Even the Tree of All Worlds was nearing depletion, and it showed signs of wilting.

Su Yi estimated that he’d need around two weeks to make a full recovery.

However, overcoming this fierce struggle had brought Su Yi enormous benefits, too! His physique, cultivation base, power of the Grand Dao, and even his essence, qi, and spirit had been shattered, and they were currently undergoing reconstruction.

Sometimes, you had to break before you could build, like a phoenix reborn in flame. And Su Yi had a powerful premonition that when he recovered, he’d reach the absolute pinnacle of the Immortal King Realm. Then, the only thing standing between him and the Great Realm was an opportunity!

Not long ago, Su Yi set a goal of reaching the Great Profound Realm before the Path of Divinity appeared. Overcoming this blood-soaked battle had transformed him; he was one step closer to the Great Realm.

This was all part of Su Yi’s plan. He wanted to undergo rapid breakthroughs over the next three to five years while still tempering his foundations to perfection every step of the way, and there was only one way to do it—seek out good fortune that could raise his cultivation base. There was no other path.

Time slipped by.

Lin Feng stood on board the Sky-Covering Ship in silence. It seemed he was thinking about something.

The Book of Karma, meanwhile, flew through the air and circled the boat. Lines of text appeared on its pages.

“Eighth Brother Boat, answer me! What, have you gone mute? Come on! It’s been such a long time since we last saw each other. Don’t you want to chat?”

But the Sky-Covering Boat didn’t react in the slightest.

The book seemed dejected. It wrote, “Argh. The passage of time is heartless indeed, and nothing changes faster than the heart of an old friend!”

Then, it returned to Su Yi’s side and fell silent.

An unknown amount of time passed before Lin Feng suddenly broke his silence. “Then… when can you awaken memories of your past lives and become the master I once knew?”

Su Yi said calmly, “Do you think that I’ll become the master you remember after I’ve fused with his memories?”

Lin Feng froze. A moment later, the realization hit him, and his spirits sank.

Su Yi sighed. “This might hurt to hear, but I was your master in a prior life. Don’t you realize what that means?”

“Master… he…” Lin Feng trembled from head to toe, his expression shifting erratically, as if he couldn’t accept this reality.

Su Yi said nothing more. No matter how powerful, mysterious, and transcendent Li Fuyou had been, the fact of the matter was that he… was already dead. Otherwise, how could he have entered the cycle of reincarnation?

Lin Feng took a deep breath and said, “I don’t believe it!!”

Su Yi cocked an eyebrow. “Don’t let your emotions overcome you.”

Lin Feng stared intently at him. “I’ll ask again: when will you reawaken Master’s memories?”

Su Yi shook his head. “I don’t know. Awakening a past life’s Dao Imprint requires the right opportunity. It could happen after a major breakthrough, or upon encountering something from my past life. It’s hard to say what’ll trigger it.”

“The right opportunity… opportunity…” Lin Feng murmured and racked his brains.

Suddenly, something occurred to him. His eyes lit up, and he said excitedly, “Dare you visit Spiritual Desolation Mountain?”

Su Yi cocked his head in confusion. “What do you mean, dare?”

Lin Feng took a deep breath and hurriedly tried to calm himself. He explained, “During the final days of the Primeval Era, Divine Venerate Tian Huang attacked Spiritual Desolation Mountain, leaving it badly damaged. That aside, as I told you earlier, Divine Venerate Tian Huang left a divine prison on the mountain. His loyal dogs are imprisoned there to this day. The entire place is covered in Divine Venerate Tian Huang’s Laws of Annihilation. It’s become an incomparably dangerous place.”

Here, his gaze grew bleak. “I won’t lie to you. The Laws of Annihilation are incomparably taboo. Not even I dare to venture inside. If I tried, not even the Sky-Covering Boat could protect my soul.”

Spiritual Desolation Mountain was their master’s territory. It was like home to Lin Feng. But then, everything changed; despite the passage of countless years, he was unable to lay eyes on his former home. The mere thought of it filled Lin Feng with rage and melancholy.

Su Yi, meanwhile, finally understood what Lin Feng was getting at.
