Legion-10 shook his head. “Maybe you will have fun that way, but not me. Pleasure for me is always tied to growing stronger in the least amount of time.”
Gerald said with some pity, “You best find a way to enjoy your life. As epic beings, we get to live an extra hundred years. This is a blessing and probably the best that we can do, so it should be cherished.”
“You can’t be rushing ahead to acquire more strength if you won’t reach rank 7 and become a legend. If you don’t become a legend, all your effort will go to waste.”
“So rather than gamble on that slim, unlikely chance that you will become a legend, you shouldn’t waste what you have now. You should enjoy it.”
Legion stared at Gerald in contemplation. By staring, they focused their sight and attention on him. This is a big deal since they can see 360 degrees around them even though they don’t have eyes.
Legion-10 was beginning to see a pattern in Gerald’s behavior. He realized that Gerald didn’t like to gamble. After all, he gave up on gambling for the authority of the pathway and is now giving up on growing stronger.
Gerald has actually made a lot of points that they agree with. They feel that it is prudent and smart of Gerald to give up. But they can’t give up because their situation is very different from Gerald’s.
It would be a waste of their talent and potential if they gave up. But while they look down on giving up, they stopped looking down on Gerald for giving up. It is because they have realized that Gerald is actually smart for a mortal.
Many mortals don’t know their limits, and even if they know it, they don’t want to admit it. But Gerald is different. He knows his limits and has admitted it. They admire quality in a mortal.
Legion-10 mused to himself, “How ironic. Two smart people came to opposite conclusions because they are different people.”
Meanwhile, they said to Gerald, “Your situation is different from mine. You can be carefree and enjoy your life, but I can’t because I have a great enemy pursuing me. If I don’t grow stronger, my enemy will catch up to me and kill me. So I can’t relax at all.”
Gerald became silent after hearing what Legion-10 said. Then he said, “I suppose I was presumptuous to assume that you had a choice. In that case, we will do the two at the same time. We will waste no time while doing them.”
Legion-10 informed him, “I also have more questions to ask you.”
Gerald chuckled and said, “Of course. So that makes three things that we are doing at once. How efficient.”
While this was going on, Legion was on their way back to the base of the Golden Hammer gang. Part of their mind was in the virtual corpse of a god, receiving a large amount of sensory information from it, but this didn’t stop them from doing other things.
Even Gerald, who doesn’t have twelve consciousnesses, was able to drink tea in his house while attending to them in the mindscape.
As an epic being and a telepath whose mind is supposed to be the strongest among godclads of equal rank, it is not a difficult thing for Gerald to multitask. If Gerald can do it, they can do it even if it is twelve times more difficult.
In the mindscape, Legion-10 asked Gerald, “Where did the virtual flesh come from? I mean, where did the first one come from? Someone must have created the first portion that everyone shared. So where is the first portion?”
This is the most important question they currently have about this mindscape and the virtual corpse. Unfortunately, Gerald’s answer disappointed them.
Gerald shook his head and said, “I know what you mean. But I don’t know.”
Legion-10 was taken aback. He asked in disbelief, “What do you mean that you don’t know? Surely you should know who came up with the idea for the virtual corpse and must have determined that it is safe to carry such a thing around.”
Gerald shook his head again. “I don’t know. I hear that legends might know. But I am too weak to know.”
Legion-10 changed his question. “What do those legends think of the divine flesh, and how do they treat the virtual corpse?”
Gerald tilted his head as he became silent. When he replied, he said, “From what I know, they are pretty enthusiastic about it. Legends are always creating more portions to carry, as far as I can tell.”
Legion-10 was silent as he and the rest of Legion ruminated on this information.
Gerald took his silence as an opportunity to introduce the mindscape to him.
He said, “You can build anything in this world. You can build objects as long as you are a rank 4 telepath. Legends can build illusions and experiences. What they build can be as realistic as the real world. Sometimes, it is even better.”
“Have you tried the food here? Most of the food is bland and tasteless. But the food created by legends sometimes tastes better than real food. You should try it.”
Legion-10 didn’t trust this mindscape, so he said, “I don’t want to try any food. I just want to get the rank 4 divine flesh that I came here for.”
In response, Gerald smiled and said, “In that case, we need to go to the trading center.”
Then he took them towards a large building that looked like a church. This church was actually a bar.
The bar serves drinks and food. The bar was also constructed by a Legend and is being run by the same Legend, so the food and drinks being served taste better than their counterparts in the real world.
Legion frowned when they first entered the bar. Gerald chuckled and said proudly, “We get to eat and trade. Talk about efficiency.”
