Imprisoned for a Trillion Years, I Was Worshipped by All Gods!
Chapter 686 - Chapter242-All-Out AssaultSeeing the look Alan shot him, Daniel waved it off with an open-hearted gesture.
“Alan, you don’t need to blame yourself. At this point, we’re all grasshoppers tied to the same rope. Even if I hadn’t brought you to the Church today, sooner or later Stephen and that NK Kingdom bunch would have come to settle scores with all of us who chose the wrong side. It’s only a matter of time.”
Hearing this, Francis let out a sigh of sentiment.
“I used to think the Church was full of heartless bastards who wouldn’t even spit out the bones after chewing people up… but I guess there are still some good folks inside.”
The moment he said that, the atmosphere in the room turned noticeably awkward.
Blanche immediately yanked Francis behind her and apologized repeatedly to Daniel.
“Your Grace, please don’t mind him—he’s not right in the head…”
Daniel let out a couple of dry laughs and then turned his gaze back to Alan. After a brief hesitation, he asked,
“So… Alan, considering how much the Church has done for you, haven’t we been more than kind and generous? That being the case… your backer—when is that person arriving?”
“Backer?”
“What do you mean?”
“Alan has a backer?!”
Daniel’s words instantly piqued everyone’s curiosity.
After all, Alan was a once-in-a-century magus who had mastered all six foundational elements. Not only that, but he had skyrocketed from Tier-Bronze to Tier-Gold in a shockingly short period.
If all of that was achieved purely through his own enlightenment, then that was simply terrifying.
Now that Daniel hinted that Alan had someone powerful supporting him from behind the scenes, the shock everyone felt was mixed with a strange sense of “That makes more sense.”
Even the former emperor standing nearby looked toward Alan with burning anticipation.
He was desperate to see with his own eyes the figure powerful enough to guide Alan to his current strength. Just what kind of extraordinary being could that possibly be?
“Alan?”
But Alan remained silent, which made Daniel start to feel uneasy.
“Come on now—just give me a straight answer. Are they coming or not?”
He had already gone all in today. In order to protect Alan, he had practically thrown the entire Church into the flames. All for the sake of securing a potential future King Magus-level ally for the Church.
And more importantly, Daniel had seen that Alan was someone who valued loyalty. After what the Church had done for him today, there was no way Alan would forget it. That was the real reason the Archbishop had chosen to take such a risk—he was betting on Alan’s gratitude.
But if that mysterious figure behind Alan never showed up… they wouldn’t even survive today’s ordeal—let alone plan for the future.
“Mr. Daniel, actually…”
Just as Alan was about to explain, a sudden and overwhelming tremor of mana erupted from outside the Church.
The magnitude of the surge was so great that even the space around them began to tremble ever so slightly.
The holy barrier enveloping the outer perimeter of the Church shimmered violently, dimming in an instant, as if it might disappear at any moment.
“Damn it, they’re here already!”
Daniel spat under his breath and quickly rushed to the window. When he looked outside, his entire body froze.
Standing just beyond the weakened barrier were two familiar figures—Stephen, the old man in the deep blue robes from the NK Kingdom, and the white-robed woman who accompanied him.
Behind them stood six unfamiliar individuals, male and female, each radiating terrifying levels of mana. Without exception, every single one of them had the unmistakable presence of a Legendary mage.
If you included Stephen and his white-robed companion, that made nine Legendary mages in total!
Nine!
Even across the entire history of the Plantagenet Kingdom, there had never been a moment when nine Legendary mages gathered together in one place.
Daniel broke out in a cold sweat. If those people launched a united assault, even if he sacrificed everything the Church had—its wealth, its treasures—there was no way they could hold out.
As he was thinking this, Stephen suddenly gave a cold laugh and spoke.
“The Church truly is foolish. Throughout history, you’ve always chosen the wrong side. That’s why you’ve been suppressed again and again. Ever since the moment royal power eclipsed divine power, this world no longer had a place for the Church. Right now, all you’re doing is struggling to breathe your last.”
He slowly raised his head and locked eyes with Daniel.
“Daniel, I’ll give you one last chance. Turn off that barrier. Or hand Alan over to me voluntarily. If you do that, I can spare your life—and the lives of your followers.”
“But if you insist on resisting…”
Stephen stepped forward and stamped the ground, forming a crimson magic circle beneath his feet.
Buzz!
From the circle, countless blood-colored blades shot out and crashed into the Church’s protective barrier, dimming its glow even further.
Afterward, Stephen withdrew his mana and dusted off his robes with a casual air.
“Then you’ll all die. Every last one of you.”
“Never!”
The aging Archbishop didn’t back down. Stephen’s terrifying presence did nothing to shake his resolve.
He had made up his mind to help Alan through this storm, and there was no way he’d turn back now.
“Well, well. Fine. Just fine!”
Stephen clapped three times in a row, his expression darkening to a thundercloud.
He turned to the elder in the deep blue robe, then looked at the six other Legendary mages behind him.
“You all saw that. I gave them a chance. It was that stubborn old fool who chose to resist. So there’s nothing left to say. Attack!”
As soon as his command rang out, waves of powerful mana exploded forth, taking on various elemental forms and crashing into the Church’s holy barrier.
Fiery meteors rained from the skies. Blizzards howled and swept across the land. Earth surged upward like rising mountains. Black metallic thorns shot from the ground like sand along the shore, sealing off all escape routes.
The Church’s defensive shield couldn’t possibly withstand the full might of so many Legendary mages. Within seconds, it shattered into countless fragments.
Immediately after, the entire monastery collapsed, as though it had been devoured by some sort of reality-warping destruction magic—leaving behind not a single intact stone.
Amid the chaos, Daniel and Emperor Denken tried to cast teleportation spells to send Alan and the others away.
But Stephen’s next strike came even faster than their escape attempt.
The Archbishop and the former emperor were slain before they could even scream.
The remaining six Legendary mages instantly surrounded Alan and the others.
Stephen pushed past them and slowly stepped forward, reaching out to clamp his hand around Alan’s throat.
He tightened just enough to make Alan suffer—without killing him outright.
Alan’s face flushed purple, limbs twitching violently as he struggled to breathe.
“Hurts, doesn’t it? Feels awful, doesn’t it? Do you wish you could kill me right now?”
The headmaster of Lioncrest Academy grabbed a fistful of Alan’s hair, lifting him up to eye level and snarled through clenched teeth:
“All of this… is what you brought upon us! And today, I’ll make you pay back every bit of it—a hundredfold! A thousandfold!”
“The fools in the Imperial Capital—they’re nothing but sheep, swayed by public opinion. They never saw the truth of what happened.”
“But today, Alan… today I will make it very clear to you.”
“We rejected you at Lioncrest Academy not because of any injustice… but because you were worthless.”
“And someone like you—trash like you—deserves to be crushed beneath my feet.”
“Lioncrest will never, ever, accept garbage like you again!”
