[OP: ]
When a swordsman hunts, they try to maximize either their speed or their force of impact. They make sure they are either strong enough to deal with a bunch of creatures in one blow, or fast enough to deal with them individually as quickly as possible.
When someone who uses a blunt weapon hunts, they try to maximize their area of impact. They choose the areas that would impact the enemies the most. They have keen senses and try to either show their strength to create large areas or impact or their prowess in handling their weapons to deal with their opponents.
With mages, the same is not the case…
-Oooooooooooong!
When a mage hunts, they use their skills or magic spells to deal with the monsters.
If they could use a destructive series of magic, they try to use their magic in a way that will deal with the enemies as quickly and efficiently as possible.
If they are made of (tier-3) or higher, they prioritize the creatures that are vulnerable to their attribute types. If they have an affinity for earth attribute magic, they try to maximize their earth magic’s area of activation.
While large-scale AOE attacks might not be possible, by maximizing their area of activation, they are able to conjure their earth magic in various places in sequence one by one.
It makes the process easier. The same is done by the fire attribute mages. However, the water and wind attribute mages use the wide-area magic.
They designate a larger area as activation points and cast a spell that covers a wide area.
When their spells activate, they harm all the beings indiscriminately.
Water is seen as weaker when used in offensive magic but those who know how to use it use it in a way that people cannot imagine.
The wind attribute is more useful in wide-area magic, however, some mages know how to condense winds and use them to deal with single targets as well.
“What… is this?”
“Have you seen anything like this…?”
“I’ve heard something like this. The red-eyes hunter… there used to be old stories of a hunter who destroyed large-scale areas with their magic.”
“Hey! What do you mean red-eyed hunter?! Isn’t that person a noble now? Besides, that person is a (tier-8) master!”
The scene before their eyes was a little complicated.
The mage that had wanted to take care of all the creatures that were coming towards them, all the dozens of (Orange) and (Yellow) rank creatures, beats that they would have had some difficulty to deal with, were all either cut into pieces or were burned to crisp.
The spells that he had used were undoubtedly (tier-3) spells. They were wide-area attacks however, they were not as simple as the magic that the other mages present could use.
The power that his spells contained, the way they destroyed the creatures without damaging the trees and environment much was so different from all the other kinds of spells that they knew about.
The spell structures resembled that of the spells that they knew but they were still pretty different spells.
These spells were so different from the usual spells that they could use that just seeing the power and the sheer force of these spells made them tremble with fear.
“We can move forward now.”
When he moved his head back and looked at them, all of the caravan members, all those who were guarding the carriages, shook with visible fear.
His eyes hidden behind the mask were the same as the red eyes of the hunter who ended up marrying one of the high nobles of Roxanna.
The person was a noble himself right now so there was no way someone like him would be with them right now. But still, when one thought about it, they could not help but associate the two of those people.
“Looks like I overdid myself. I shall apologize, everyone. I didn’t mean to steal all the creatures by myself. I do not plan to hoard them all… if you find any energy nucleus or skill stones, I will take it, but you all can have the rest.”
He did not destroy the bodies completely.
He knew how useful these creatures were so he had only either cut them from their vital points or used magic that burned them from inside, saving their fur and skin.
The creatures contained Mana so even their bones were important. And since there were more than enough, when the other party members heard his words, they were pretty surprised.
“Oh! Oh! Thank you!”
“Thanks, sir! We will take good care of them!”
“Hahaha! I knew he was a good person!”
The merchant leader was stunned by his performance as well. She had not expected him to be this good.
His eyes were intimidating, but his voice was soft and caring. His magic was fierce.
When he used his magic, she was reminded of the battlefield that she had once seen during her travels.
There were mages out there who could control their powers to such an extent that even simple magic would seem far more dangerous.
Mages who could use their magic with precision similar to what she had just seen were called [War mages], people who knew how to use their powers to destroy and kill with great efficiency.
Like those mages who fight in wars, this mage dealt with the creatures in a way that made it seem unbelievably effortless.
When he used one spell, while not many might have noticed, she had seen how he was activating a few magic circles together.
He wasn’t casting large scale magic but his spells were made in a way that connected them together to create an effect that seemed like large scale magic, enhancing their performance.
She wasn’t a mage, but she had been lucky enough to awaken her energy nucleus at an early age. She had not studied magic much, but she had still seen enough magic to know what it was and how it worked.
Besides, being a merchant, she had good intuition.
She knew this person wasn’t someone as simple as he looked. Now that she was looking at him closely, he was actually weakening expensive equipment that looked like normal gear.
They were enchanted as well, making them far more valuable than the regular gear that anyone else in their party was using.
“Then, as soon as we finish collecting–…!”
Brian took care of the small fries as quickly as he could because he wanted to get out of thai place quickly.
This was a hunting ground filled with many kinds of monsters and he did not want the party to deal with beings that would take too long to handle.
The faster they left the palace, the earlier they would reach their destination.
Sadly, it seemed like the regular troubles weren’t going to leave them alone.
“AWOOOOOOO!”
A soul chilling howl that made all of them freeze in their places was heard from not far from their location.
“It’s a (Blue) rank…”
Brian knew instantly what kind of creature this was. It wasn’t a (Green) rank beast, a tough opponent a level above the ones that they had just dealt with.
This was something much more ferocious. Something that would deal a significant blow to their party if it got them.
“ALL MEMBERS! WE WILL LEAVE-.”
The merchant leader, judging the situation in a heartbeat, ordered everyone to return. However, even before she could finish her sentence, they felt a powerful presence that set off their mental alarms.
“It’s already here.”
A creature that one did not usually encounter so close to the city. A beast that was the pinnacle of the beasts that one can find in these kinds of hunting areas.
“Ah…”
“What… what’s…”
“Werewolf…”
“Aghhhhhhhhh!”
The creature came from the other side of the forest. Its tongue out of its mouth, its sharp fangs with a hint of blood on them still present, shining as it smirked.
The bloodthirst oozing from the creature was simply horrific. The weaker party members who could not handle this presence even fell unconscious on the spot.
The creature that had appeared before them was not something most of them had experienced before. And even those who had faced a being like this before were not confident enough to kill such a creature.
The strongest person among them was a [Rank-4] knight. Perhaps the knight could hold the creature back, but this monster was not something they could defeat with one or two skilled people.
“Everyone! Step back!”
Some of them were near the bodies of the fallen creatures while some of them were still near the carriages.
The horses that were attached to these carriages were all in a state of fear as well. A being like this was not something they were prepared to face right now…
There was also something strange about this creature. How was it that it was able to come this far so quickly?
“It’s a mutant.” The masked mage knew the answer. And, with his appraisal skill, he could also see the information of this creature.

============
It was a terrifying creature that should not have been anywhere near the capital city. The fact that this was here though, meant the things that were happening on the other trade routes might have started happening on this one as well.
“It’s your unlucky day though, your doggy.”
It was a good thing that he was here this time.
A beast like this wasn’t that big of a deal for him, but he would have to reveal more of his powers than he had expected.
This mission of his would not remain as covert as he wanted, but at least no one here would dare speak about what they were going to see from now on.
After all, they knew just from what they had witnessed earlier what the outcome of any misstep they took here would be…
