The color of the devouring vines used to be light green, but this time, as Evan used the skill, the vines that emerged from his palm were a dark moss green.

Throughout every single vine, a strange, elongated pattern was engraved, closely resembling the first pattern of the Rune of Absorption that he had just inscribed on his energy veins.

A devouring force, akin to a small black hole emanated from the vines. The moment the vines touched the body of the Peak Rank Three Eldritch Horror, the sharp thorns embedded in them sank into its flesh.

The dark moss green vines lit up as soon as the thorns pierced the Eldritch Horror's body, and the first pattern of the Rune of Absorption engraved on them shone brightly.

Previously, it took the devouring vines two to three days just to completely absorb the body of a Rank One monster. This inefficiency was one of the reasons Evan had stopped using this skill. (I had explained it in chap—1024)

Instead of relying on it, cultivating normally and absorbing World Essence to increase the rank of his core had been far more effective.

But this time, as the first pattern of the Rune of Absorption activated, the body of the Peak Rank Three Eldritch Horror shrank at a speed visible to the naked eye.

At the same time, a vast amount of energy poured into Evan's body through the vines, rapidly increasing the level of his core and bringing it closer to the peak of Rank Three.

To ensure his core was not overwhelmed by the influx of energy, Evan had already deactivated the forty-two patterns of the Rune engraved on it.

Although his core was rapidly moving towards the peak of Rank Three, Evan paid no attention to this.

Instead, most of his focus was on the body of the Eldritch Horror in front of him.

The energy being absorbed by the vines primarily came from the flesh, bones, and blood of the Eldritch Horror. However, this energy held little value to Evan as he could already increase the rank of his core using the Rune of Absorption inscribed on his core.

What truly mattered to him was the Eldritch Energy contained within the body of the Eldritch Horror.

Eldritch Energy was very similar to the conceptual energy, but unlike the conceptual energy, it was highly chaotic and volatile.

The Rune of Absorption's function was to absorb and convert external matter or energy into a form useful to its user.

However, due to Evan's insufficient strength, he could not currently draw a complete Primordial Rune of Absorption and fully unleash its power.

What does it mean to absorb something and transform it into useful energy?

Simply put, if Evan could draw a complete Rune of Absorption, he would be able to absorb surrounding World Essence and convert it into different kinds of energy more beneficial to him.

For example, turning the World Essence into the energy of void crystals.

To enhance his understanding of the conceptual energy of the Void, Evan had consumed many void crystals in the past.

These crystals contained Void Energy that significantly enhanced a person's conceptual grasp of Void Energy. If he could draw the entire Rune of Absorption, he would easily be able to transform energy types as needed.

Unfortunately, with his current power, it was impossible to draw the complete Rune of Absorption or convert absorbed World Essence into other energy forms.

However, not being able to change the World Essence doesn't mean he can't change the other things.

The reason he can't change the World Essence into the enegry of the void crystals using the incomplete Rune of Absorption is because the World Essence is one of the most basic energy forms.

In contrast, objects like void crystals contained Void Energy, which was intricately linked to Concepts and of a higher order than World Essence.

Rather than attempting to manipulate World Essence, Evan planned to experiment with higher-level energies, such as the conceptual energies found within Core Evolvers or other similar entities.

Void Energy was only the beginning. Evan already possessed enough void crystals to push his Void Energy comprehension to one hundred percent, rendering converting the other energies into the energy of the void crystals useless.

What he wanted to test now was whether he could transform Eldritch Energy into another energy type. If successful, it would represent a major breakthrough in his strength.

The Rune of Absorption's continuous absorption of energy meant it would take him no more than three days to reach the peak of Rank Three.

During this time, he could also use void crystals to push his Void Energy comprehension to one hundred percent.

Once these two goals were achieved, he could attempt to condense his Law Seal and break through to Rank Four.

In theory, reaching Rank Four was already within his grasp and would not pose significant difficulty.

However, the challenges would begin once he reached Rank Four.

After ascending to Rank Four, individuals needed to comprehend laws and nourish their Law Seals with the power of those laws.

Without a sufficient understanding of laws, it was impossible to advance even within minor realms, such as moving from the beginner to mid-level Rank Four.

This was a time-consuming process, often requiring hundreds or even thousands of years.

As someone who had lived on Earth—a planet where most people could not even live for one hundred years—Evan simply could not afford to spend centuries or millennia comprehending laws.

Moreover, the seal within the Tomb of the Ancient would break in just a few years, meaning he needed to strengthen himself as quickly as possible.

This ongoing experiment was the key to achieving rapid growth.

If the Rune of Absorption successfully converted Eldritch Energy into a different energy type, it would prove that even an incomplete Rune could alter the nature of energy.

The condition for this transformation, however, was that the energy being absorbed and the energy it was converted into had to be of the same level.

If this experiment succeeded, Evan's entire approach to growth would change.

After becoming a Rank Four Core Evolver, instead of slowly comprehending laws and nurturing his Law Seal, he could use the Energy Devouring skill, amplified by the Rune of Absorption, to absorb the power of laws from other Rank Four Core Evolvers.

He could then convert that law power into energy that would accelerate his comprehension of laws and nourish his Law Seal.
