Chapter 2214: Operation Dreaded Winter -Part 6

"Yawnnnn." One of the soldiers at the northern borders of the Ends stretched his feet and hands while shivering up to the cold weather due to the equipment he was wearing. Although it was a little lacklustre considering the quick call up that the group had to assemble in Ends as soon as possible, it should do the job.

"Looks like war seems inevitable, eh?" His pal said as he glanced over the war with the soldier who yawned. Their guard duty was about to be over and yet there was nothing but peace from the north side.

"I am not sure, the way they exaggerated it made it feel like this would only be a show of power." The soldier took out his helmet for a moment to scratch his head before putting back the cold steel covering. Stay updated with empire

"Besides, no one is looking forward to this war if I am not mistaken. They are just doing it because of the money that the Sirs and Ladies are pouring to get us here. Apparently, all they want is the Crystal Mine and nothing else."

"Plus the numbers here will put any kingdom armies to shame, there is no way this Mage country is able to win against us. From what I heard, there were already anti mage traps being placed in this kingdom."

"Yeah, that is true. We might not have that many mages, but we have priests, paladins and holy divine relics that are comparable to fighting an army of mages. Besides, as long as the Southern Kingdom managed to go into the melee, those mages are tossed." The soldiers said as they perked themselves up with the possible dreams of victory. If anything, it was terribly easy to visualise it mainly because of the numbers that had been gathering in the kingdom of Ends, one major alliance member in the Southern Kingdoms.

They had been dying to eye for the Crystal Mine for ages and this was the perfect chance to do so. Surely, they need to pay dividends to the alliance members but this was a matter that could be dealt with in secret after they possessed the Crystal Mine by Ress. To them, they were extremely surprised that during the seclusion Ress had made, the Crystal Mine was still intact, which was nothing short of a miracle.

In fact, to the King of Ends, it felt as if this was heaven's dictate. He believed that the Crystal Mine should be his, considering how Ress had underutilised them after seeing magical video evidence of the mine's condition. Therefore, Ends felt that this was the best opportunity to go in for the kill now that they were weak from fighting some bizarre entities from the skies. Most of his advisors believed those were possible demons of another element. (considering how they have no idea what Celestials were.)

So, now that they were so weak on their knees and hearing how much devastation the war had caused them, Ends wanted to hit them during Winter instead rather than the Spring Initiative. Of course, this was badly discouraged by many and the purpose of sending the kingdom's troops up was mainly because of the possible desperate attack that Ress might mount due to the 'rumours' and missives that had been sent by Ress, declaring an all out 'support' to Southern Kingdoms against the demons.

Not only that, the various kingdoms who had sent their token armies in the initial round when they fought in unison with the surrounding kingdoms of Ress were still fresh in their mind. The thought of losing all of their troops with no news except for one misery scout that had been spared to spread the message was not something they wished to risk again.

That was why despite the numbers, a lot of counteract magic had been placed in Ends, hoping to deal with the bulk of the flying mages they heard of. It was a disgrace, to be honest, to not be able to obtain information about these flying mages aside from the surviving soldier but they can only take a pinch of salt from a survivor despite his bombastic accounts (despite it being true) to the various kings.

And thus with all these disagreements, the King of Ends decided to keep quiet and follow orders for now. His hands were tied but the king was not going to let this go. Once the all out offensive by Ress was done, the numbers provided by the various Southern Kingdoms would be sufficient to mount a counteroffensive. He too was disappointed and saddened by the loss of his troops but they were mere trash troops in his opinion, and not utilising the best of the best for the attack.

Therefore, his perceived cognition of reality was still skewed and he was ignorant to learn what folly awaited him. However, the so-called all out offensive does not seem to come. Snow had fallen for days and the amount of upkeep that Ends had to do to feed all of the soldiers was starting to get on his nerves. But because most of them had brought their own supplies, the king of Ends tolerated them for a while longer until they started to touch at least 15% of his coffers.

That would be about a week into the winter season.

But just as the week had passed ever so peacefully and quietly, aside from the ruckus the White Flames had been giving about, requesting for more troops to battle against the Zombie threat from Mong, there was an urgent missive from the Southern kingdoms.

The King of Ends was woken abruptly by the news as the messenger was stripped of his usual winter clothing, suffering from a few frostbites just to get the news to Ends as soon as possible.

"My lord. The Southern Kingdom ports, especially the southern regions had been invaded by Demons! And they amount to thousands of them with explosive powers on their side. The remaining kingdoms are requesting their troops to return as soon as possible!" The messenger said as he suddenly fell to the ground, lifeless.
