Online Game: I Started with Max Charisma and Caught the Goddess's Eye
Chapter 428 - 428: Zenobia’s Timely InterventionThe massive explosion not only affected those in the real world but also had an impact on the two engaged in their strategic contest in the Dream World.
Both Luca and Devitt sensed the tremendous shockwave at the same time.
They both quickly deduced that it had to be Nova’s action.
Hidden among the vines, Devitt laughed loudly. “Your partner’s pinned down! She had no choice but to use the nuclear device to buy herself some time. You know as well as I do that the nuclear device can only briefly delay the monsters. In the long run, the energy released by the device will simply be absorbed by the monsters.”
Devitt finally sighed in relief.
It must have been Zenobia’s intervention that placed Nova in this predicament. Once Zenobia defeated Luca’s allies in the real world, it wouldn’t be long before Devitt could escape.
Luca didn’t respond to Devitt’s taunting. He was merely focused on clearing the vines.
In the time that had passed, he had managed to corral the vines into a narrow area. While this made the power Devitt could wield even stronger, it also meant that Devitt had nowhere left to hide.
Luca only needed to destroy all the vines in the area, and Devitt’s consciousness in the Dream World would be destroyed.
Without consciousness, even if Devitt’s body wasn’t physically harmed, it would become nothing more than a lifeless shell.
Faced with Luca’s continued assault, Devitt began to panic again.
“Aren’t you going to save your allies? Do you think killing me is more important than rescuing them? You really are a cold and heartless person.”
“My allies can hold out long enough, but you won’t last much longer,” Luca finally replied.
But his words only drove Devitt into even greater panic.
“Then I see no reason to waste any more time with you,” Devitt’s voice echoed once more.
A mass of vines gathered together, eventually forming a twisted tree-like figure.
This twisted tree was clearly Devitt’s real body.
“I’ve been playing possum. I was merely delaying and holding you back. All of this was just to give Zenobia the chance to quickly deal with your allies.”
Devitt spoke while channeling his own power.
A powerful barrier of chaotic energy formed around the tree-like figure.
This purple barrier even began to affect the Dream World itself, causing the Dream Space to warp and distort.
Luca coldly watched his opponent, tightening his grip on his weapon.
He didn’t believe a single word Devitt was saying.
“Zenobia has already trapped your allies in a corner! I no longer need to keep playing games with you! All I need to do now is eliminate you in the Dream World!”
As soon as the words left his mouth, the twisted tree figure transformed into a burst of purple light.
The purple light, carrying all the chaotic energy, sped toward Luca at incredible velocity.
In the blink of an eye, Luca was forced to make a decision.
He felt that it would be best to first defend against his opponent’s attack.
After blocking the attack, he would have time to retaliate.
He activated the shield magic runes and extended his Starseeker forward. In an instant, a silver-white barrier appeared.
The purple light and the silver-white shield closed in rapidly.
Just as the two were about to collide, the purple light suddenly veered off course.
In that instant, Luca realized he had been deceived.
Devitt’s entire series of actions weren’t meant for a final confrontation; he had been misleading him, searching for a chance to escape.
Recognizing his opponent’s true intentions, Luca quickly activated the lightning magic runes.
A bolt of lightning materialized out of nowhere in the Dream World, and it sped toward the purple light at lightning speed.
However, the bolt of lightning ultimately couldn’t catch up to the purple light.
Not long after the purple light shot off, a surge of chaotic energy poured into the Dream World, and a twisted purple portal materialized out of nowhere.
The purple light flew straight into the portal, and then the portal collapsed.
In an instant, Luca found himself alone in the Dream World.
“It looks like Zenobia made her move after all. She didn’t abandon Devitt. There must be another scheme between them!”
Luca quickly made the connection.
Only Zenobia could wield such immense chaotic energy.
And the portal created from that chaotic energy was clearly one of Zenobia’s signature moves.
Luca had encountered this exact tactic several times in the Dream World before.
“I must return to the real world now! It seems the final showdown can only take place there!”
The Dreamweaving Mist quickly began to shrink.
As all the Dreamweaving Mist gathered around Luca, his consciousness returned to the real world.
The moment he opened his eyes, a desolate, ruined landscape greeted him.
“It seems those monsters really did corner you,” Luca observed, immediately understanding what had happened. The three heavily wounded monsters were glaring at him from a short distance away. Nova, meanwhile, was lying on the ground in a pitiful state.
“Did you defeat Devitt?” Nova asked, struggling to raise her spirits.
Luca slowly shook his head.
“Zenobia made her move just in time. The powerful chaotic energy helped Devitt escape. But I never intended to defeat him in the Dream World. The final battle will still take place in the real world.”
Luca’s words were undoubtedly true.
From the very beginning, their plan had been to eliminate Zenobia and Devitt in the real world during the final confrontation.
However, Nova still looked slightly disappointed.
She gathered herself and slowly stood up from the ground.
“I think our plan is unlikely to succeed now. Zenobia and Devitt were able to severely wound us with just four monsters. There must be more monsters in the Lakeside City area.”
As she spoke, her voice was tinged with deep disappointment.
Luca could understand how she felt.
However, Luca was absolutely not going to give up on this mission.
If they abandoned this operation now, Zenobia and Devitt would likely take the initiative to attack.
At that point, the battlefield could end up in the 102 Shelter or at Zenith Technology Company’s Daskhollow base—two places Luca absolutely could not allow to be compromised. These areas were of utmost importance to him and his allies.
“Our operation might not succeed in the end. But no matter what, we must continue pushing forward. At the very least, we must severely weaken Zenobia and Devitt.”
At this point, Luca stopped speaking.
He knew that Nova would understand his thoughts.
Sure enough, after brushing her hair back, Nova gave a sad smile.
“You’re right. If we retreat now, they will definitely seize the opportunity to counterattack. Our situation will become even worse. So let’s eliminate the monsters in front of us first,” Nova said, having already composed herself.
Luca nodded, and the two of them quickly launched an attack on the three heavily wounded monsters nearby.
There was no suspense in this battle.
Luca was far stronger than these monsters to begin with. With the monsters already severely injured, Luca and Nova managed to destroy all of them in less than 10 minutes.
However, they did not take the opportunity to enter the urban area of Lakeside City right away.
It was already afternoon, and if they entered the city now, they wouldn’t find a safe place before nightfall.
So, Luca and Nova ultimately decided to stay the night in the nearby satellite town.
After making the decision, they quickly informed Donlow and the others of their plan.
At that moment, Donlow and his team had reached the outskirts of Lakeside City. They were hiding in a dilapidated villa.
The villa was located on the edge of a canal, with no monsters around.
The three of them carefully checked the area before taking refuge inside the villa.
“Luca and Nova won’t be entering Lakeside City until tomorrow morning, so we’ll have to wait another night,” Donlow quickly informed Fuzzsir and Melania after receiving the message.
Fuzzsir and Melania both looked somewhat disappointed.
They both felt that delaying for another night would bring additional risks. The longer they delayed, the better prepared their enemies would be.
“I think we might be able to act alone,” Fuzzsir suddenly stood up and said. “Zenobia and Devitt’s attention is definitely focused on Luca. Luca and Nova have made quite a stir. So we can use this opportunity to catch the enemy off guard.”
As soon as Fuzzsir finished speaking, Melania immediately agreed.
“Exactly! Donlow, didn’t you say we should play a bigger role? This is our chance to do just that! If we can launch a surprise attack while the enemy is distracted, they might suffer a serious blow!”
Facing the eager Fuzzsir and Melania, Donlow coldly replied, “Playing a bigger role doesn’t mean rushing out to die. Do you really think the enemy hasn’t spotted us yet? They’re just choosing not to attack us on purpose.”
With that, Donlow pulled back the curtains of the villa.
Fuzzsir and Melania instinctively looked outside, and sure enough, not far from them, there was a sneaky monster lurking.
“The enemy hasn’t attacked us yet because they want us to make a misjudgment,” Donlow said calmly after quickly drawing the curtains back.
