Chapter 1207. The Demon King of Sunset’s Castle (27)Chapter 1207. The Demon King of Sunset’s Castle (27)
For mortals, it was a natural disaster.
It was like a whimsical god cast a lightning bolt out of the blue upon mortals.
[The Monarch of Sunset rises from his throne.]
[The Monarch of Sunset desperately searching for the God of Sacrifice and Revival seeks to destroy his enemies.]
A shocking message echoed as soon as William and Woo Hyo-Yeol's duel ended. To be exact, it was when I[1] tried to test the connection with both of them. It was shocking news to the troops trying to rest at the camp, and it was even more shocking for me, who was walking down the timeline that was set before me.
I felt like brushing it off as nothing, but the problem was that I couldn’t do that.
Whenever transcendent beings summoned to a continent did something, the system would broadcast a message. It was like an emergency broadcast for the mortals whose lives could easily change with just a single flap of a transcendent being's wings.
My anxiety deepened upon hearing the message.
The system wouldn't send a message for every little movement. Basically, the system wouldn't send an emergency broadcast just because the Monarch of Sunset had gotten up from his throne and mumbled that he was going to destroy the enemies of the God of Sacrifice and Revival.
The emergency broadcast meant that the Monarch of Sunset was finally making a move. He rose from his throne with purpose, and surely, no one would miss that his resolve to destroy my enemies wasn't a joke.
He was actively transforming it into reality.
‘Shit.’
The noisy camp became quiet.
“What’s going on?!"
“What’s going on with the dungeon all of a sudden?!”
The camp became noisy once again.
The timing was really bad.
‘The priests are still recovering. I was told that a third of them can still move.’
They weren’t going to be that helpful anyway, but it was better to have them around than not. It felt like everyone—William, Woo Hyo-Yeol, members of the command center, and members of the Flower and Fertility Familia—were looking at me.
I was sure they were waiting for me to make a decision.
Boom!
I heard a loud explosion within the castle along with a familiar voice.
“What the?! What the hell?!”
“Ahhhhh! Damn it!”
The castle was shaking. Unless one were an idiot, one would be able to feel the malice and rage within the castle bathed in sunset.
‘Shit!’
I immediately realized that the entire thing was now beyond the script. Although I had no idea what was happening on the upper floors, I knew that my plan was ruined. Actually, my plan was ruined the moment I received that emergency broadcast.
‘Where did it all go wrong...’
There was another loud explosion, and I heard William's voice again.
“Mr. Lee Ki-Young.”
“This is...” I said.
“I think an unexpected variable has come into play,” William said.
“A variable?” I asked.
“Yes. I don’t know what’s going on either... but I think the Monarch of Sunset has finally decided to make a move,” William answered.
“The dungeon boss...” I mumbled.
“It’s a special case. Dungeon bosses don't usually leave the boss room, but this is the 21st Legion’s nest. I’m sure it’s a risky bet for him as well, but it’s bad news for the allied forces.
"I think he decided to make a move even at the risk of receiving a penalty,” William explained.
“A penalty?” I asked.
William had to explain things to someone who knew nothing about the system.
“A massive amount of energy is necessary to maintain the 21st Legion’s presence here. The Monarch of Sunset hasn't been moving to minimize the cost. It’s the same for the other demons, but a commander like him probably needs an exorbitant amount of energy to stay here,” William explained.
“...”
"A transcendent being is going to be penalized just for existing on the continent. It should be easier to understand if you think about it that way,” William added.
“Then... can’t we consider that an advantage for the allied forces?” I asked.
‘What the hell is he saying?’
They probably believed that they had become some kind of big shot, as they had gotten a bit stronger, but... these guys wouldn't last even a minute against him..
‘It could take a bit longer, but there isn’t that big of a difference.’
They only had a few steps left before their stats were high enough to have a conversation with Kim Hyun-Sung.
It sounded like an exaggeration, but there was a clear difference between 10-0 and 10-1. They need to at least be at one to have a conversation with Kim Hyun-Sung.
Both William and Woo Hyo-Yeol had yet to meet the minimum stat requirements. If they became even stronger through the Park-Ki-Ri siblings, they would meet the minimum requirements, but the rate of growth I had in mind just came to a halt.
“Interesting. I was actually starting to get bored with the dungeon. Do we really need to avoid the idiot who has decided to willingly come out despite the penalties?” Woo Hyo-Yeol asked.
‘He must be out of his mind, but I think it's because he hasn't seen Hyun-Sung yet. He must be dying to get his head smashed open with a single slap.’
“Where is he? Do you know?” Woo Hyo-Yeol asked.
‘How should I know?’
“This could actually be a good thing. If he loses the means to move, the course of the battle will undoubtedly shift to our advantage,” William said.
Both William and Woo Hyo-Yeol were burning with determination to fight. I somewhat understood their plan, but they clearly had the wrong goal.
“It’s impossible. You can’t. You can’t defeat him right now,” I told them.
“There’s no such thing as an impossible battle,” Woo Hyo-Yeol commented.
“Mr. Woo Hyo-Yeol is right. We won’t know unless we try,” William said.
“Especially if our opponent is someone who can’t control his temper,” William added.
‘I didn’t ask William to get close so you guys can act like this...’
“I know that we won't know unless we try, but the Monarch of Sunset isn’t an idiot. I’m sure there’s a reason he's in a rush. I know you two are strong, but you aren’t ready yet. The first thing you need to do is meet the minimum stat requirements,” I suggested.
“That’s...”
“Your stats must be increased. The method doesn’t matter. You can use... coins... or get help from the GENIUSES. You have to level up once or just half a level is enough,” I added.
“That’s...”
‘There’s nothing more you can do with your equipment.’
There was no other way to increase their stats with external tools.
“Mr. Lee Ki-Young,” William said.
“We’re going to move right now. Prepare to leave,” I ordered.
“Pardon?”
“We’re going to leave this place first. We’ll think about the next part after,” I said.
“...”
‘It’s like I was looking at refugees.’
“We’ll abandon the camp,” I added.
“But...”
“We don’t need to take everything with us. We just need to take the supplies we can carry,” I instructed.
Before I could speak more, I heard loud voices everywhere.
“Move! Move!”
“Abandon the camp! Grab only what you can carry and get out of here fast, you idiots!”
“Hey, you! Since you’re all geared up, then get moving! What are you doing there?! Move! Now!”
The Flower and Fertility Familia and the command center immediately carried out my order.
“Didn’t you say that you weren’t going to run away?” Woo Hyo-Yeol questioned.
“I’m not running away. I just need time to prepare. There’s a clear difference between arrogance and confidence, Mr. Hyo-Yeol,” I told him.
“I just...”
“I’m the commander here. You may not like it, but I want to face the Monarch of Sunset at our best. I don’t want to lose people in vain. We can increase our chances of victory as many times as we want, but it will still be a tough fight,” I continued.
“...”
“I’m here for this fight, so please focus on my orders,” I requested.
Woo Hyo-Yeol said nothing and simply stared at me.
“Mr. Lee Ki-Young, where is our next destination?” William asked.
'I don’t know either, man.'
Kabooooooooom!
There was another explosion. I was somewhat relieved to know that we weren’t getting any closer. Since the noises kept coming from just one place, it was highly likely that...
‘They’re trying to stop him.’
The Blue Guild was probably trying to stop Kim Hyun-Sung from leaving. Of course, I wasn’t certain, but given the circumstances, that was the only conclusion I could reach.
Kim Hyun-Sung had either gone mad or a seed was planted within him, and it was telling him that I was fake. The members probably believed that allowing him to leave the castle was a threat to me.
‘It’s not bad... but the situation isn’t good either.’
Except for Park Deok-Gu, Ahn Ki-Mo, and Kim Ye-Ri, the others wouldn't be worth it. The boss monsters couldn't be missing, or there would be no way for William and Woo Hyo-Yeol to obtain decent experience points.
Climbing swiftly while obtaining as many experience points as possible was the best thing to do.
'Then... it'll be Sun Hee-Young, Kim Ye-Ri, Park Deok-Gu, Lee Chang-Ryeol, Hwang Jung-Yeon, Ahn Ki-Mo, and Elena. Is that all of that? I wonder how long they’ll last. If Jo Hye-Jin were with them... No, if Ha-Yan were with them, it'd be fine.'
Frankly, the only person I could trust was Sun Hee-Young. Our pig knew how to take hits and could endure to some extent, but he wasn't really that great at withstanding burst attacks.
Kim Hyun-Sung was going to hit them nonstop, so I would honestly be impressed if they ended up lasting more than an hour against him.
Belier and Alps weren't part of the main force. If they were one of the vanguards, they would have a chance to attack. Unfortunately, they weren't one of the vanguards, so chiming in would disrupt the party's rhythm against Kim Hyun-Sung.
One thing I was relieved about was that Jung Ha-Yan was on our side.
‘Maybe I should buy them some time.’
'No, it’s pointless. Even if we get lucky and he gets recalled...'
'Maybe an hour? Two hours? Maybe longer than that?' They were too weak to hold out for that long, and more importantly...
‘I think it’s meaningless.’
Running away was an option I had never considered.
Considering Rohen’s circumstances, giving up on opposing Kim Hyun-Sung was the same thing as giving up on Rohen. Hadn't I basically told Lee Ki-Young that Rohen was capable of advancing on its own?
‘Giving up means that I can't carry out my mission.’
“Mr. Lee Ki-Young,” William said.
‘Shit, this is...’
“Excuse me... Mr. Lee Ki-Young,” William said.
“Please be prepared to fight at any time,” I ordered.
“Understood!” William answered and shouted, “Prepare for battle! Prepare for battle!”
“Prepare for battle! Move, quick! You idiots! Prepare for battle!”
“Damn it! What the hell is going on?!”
“You think I'd be here if I knew? The only thing they’re telling us is to prepare for battle...”
“They should at least tell us what’s going on.”
'Yeah, I get that you guys are confused because I’m confused as well, damn it.'
[The Boy Adorned With Earrings of Truth mocks you by looking at you and calling you stupid.]
“Move the troops back for now...”
As soon as I gave that order...
Crack! Booom!
Bathed in the glow of sunset, sinister and malevolent souls descended before us.
‘There’s no way he’s already here.’
“Ah...”
‘Is he avoiding battle?’
“Ahh...”
The dumbfounded idiots were staring blankly at the sight, and the Monarch of Sunset quietly looked around from behind them. The sight was so bizarre that even I briefly thought that he was a god.
