Chapter 100: The Boy’s Fury
Damn it!
Yveste’s face turned deathly pale in an instant.
She was certain she hadn’t consciously thought of making such a catastrophic wish.
Yet the Wishing Jar seemed to have twisted her subconscious, guiding her toward such a dangerous idea.
As she watched the endless stream of viscous black sludge surging forth, Yveste summoned her crimson Extraordinary Power, trying to annihilate it within the confines of the underground ruins.
But it was futile.
With the completion of the dark ritual, the power erupting from the Wishing Jar was escalating at a pace that even she found terrifying.
A chilling realization dawned on her.
This... this is a Level-0 Sealed Artifact?!Father lied to me?!
Hovering in the air, Yveste was paralyzed with confusion and disbelief, her emotions churning in chaos.
Anger, sorrow, despair, bewilderment—they all surged through her mind.
She had never dealt with a crisis involving a Level-0 Sealed Artifact before. She had no idea if her body could withstand such overwhelming laws and traits.
She was likely going to die.
Even if she survived, she’d undoubtedly awaken as a complete monstrosity.
Should she retreat?
The thought crossed her muddled mind.
But, for some reason, she instinctively dismissed it.
She could flee, but the subordinates waiting outside the ruins and Duke Tyrius’s army would have no chance of surviving the black sludge.
And then there was Orne City, not far away.
Although she didn’t care one bit about the lives of its citizens, the aftermath was predictable.
If the Princess of Sin caused a catastrophe that engulfed the entire city due to her negligence, she would face unprecedented backlash upon returning to the Imperial Capital.
Her detractors, eager for her downfall, would revel in piling on the ridicule and condemnation.
Unacceptable.
A deep-seated determination rose once more within her.
The next instant, Yveste’s slender fingers became enshrouded in searing red light.
Without hesitation, she tore through the billowing black sludge and appeared directly in front of the Wishing Jar.
She placed her hand firmly on the jar’s central, venomous female face, unleashing her Devouring Power without restraint.
“Boom—!”
The mountain collapsed, shockwaves rippling in all directions.
Meanwhile, a voice tinged with pain echoed across the entire mountain range.
"Run... now!"
...
It was such a suffocatingly gloomy day.
As Lamonta unloaded heavy wooden crates from the carriage with his companions, he wiped his relentless sweat with the towel draped around his neck.
For some reason, though he was only thirty, the mere half hour of labor had left him feeling light-headed.
"Cough... cough..."
Suddenly, a sharp pain spread through his lungs. Reflexively, he pressed a clenched fist to his lips and coughed hard.
A wet, sticky sensation erupted from his mouth.
Lamonta instinctively lowered his head and saw a writhing pool of black sludge on the ground in front of him.
An absurd and overwhelming fear surged in his chest.
Desperately looking for help, he raised his head—only to discover that his companions and nearby passersby had all collapsed to the ground at some point, their life force rapidly draining away.
Black sludge gushed from their mouths and noses, dripping onto the ground.
But that wasn’t all. The sludge seemed alive.
Sensing kindred energy, the streams began converging of their own accord, flowing like rivers that fanned out in all directions.
“Aaaahhhhh!!!”
Horrified screams echoed through the streets.
At that moment, similar scenes unfolded in every corner of Orne City.
The sudden calamity swept through the entire city in an instant.
...
As black light bloomed from the mountain, the various churches stationed at its outskirts sprang into action.
Extraordinary power rippled through the air, and a multicolored barrier began to form, gradually solidifying like a protective dome.
Rather than rushing into the mountain, they used a range of abilities and Sealed Artifacts to lock down the entire Soren Mountain Range.
"Stay sharp!" shouted the bishop of the Silent Church. "What you’re about to face is a Level-0 Sealed Artifact on the verge of regaining its full power!"
"Everything is proceeding according to His Majesty’s plan," he continued. "We just need to wait for the Third Princess to weaken most of the artifact's malevolent traits. Its danger level will drop by several magnitudes afterward!"
Within the Silent Church's ranks, a priest murmured hesitantly, "Are we... really doing the right thing?"
As the massive barrier sealed tighter and tighter, a sense of unease spread among many of the clergy.
Prioritizing the containment of a Sealed Artifact over the safety of Orne City’s people…
Wasn’t that at odds with the teachings they claimed to uphold?
Upon hearing this, an Extraordinary from the Divine Order Church scoffed coldly.
"To achieve greatness, one cannot be bound by trivialities. The value of a Level-0 Sealed Artifact far outweighs the lives of mere civilians."
The Silent Church’s Extraordinary shook his head in disdain.
"Now I understand why you’re so despised in Orne City."
"You—!"
The Divine Order Church’s Extraordinary was momentarily stunned, his face twisting in anger.
"Excuse me."
A voice suddenly interrupted.
"Can we put the arguing aside for now? You can resume after we get through this."
The voice was abrupt, drawing the attention of all present.
Their gazes fell upon a handsome black-haired, blue-eyed youth.
Yet, something about him was off.
His features appeared strained, as though he were suppressing some intense emotion, and his body exuded an eerie aura.
"It’s you?!"
The Divine Order Church’s Extraordinary immediately recognized him, his expression turning wary.
"What are you doing here?! Entry is forbidden right now!"
This was the very person who had shattered their church’s influence and caused Bishop Mozel to be executed—their nemesis.
Noticing the wary gaze of the Divine Order Church’s Extraordinary, the black-haired youth seemed to recall something he had left undone.
What followed was a move no one expected.
Under the watchful eyes of all present, the youth raised his index finger and began pointing at the Divine Order Church’s Extraordinaries, counting them one by one as though taking attendance.
"One... two... three... four..."
"What are you doing?!"
The lead Divine Order Church Extraordinary stepped forward, his expression icy, demanding an explanation.
The youth ignored him, continuing to count.
The atmosphere grew tense, a strange unease settling over everyone.
Uncertain of what was happening, the others could only remain on high alert, watching his bizarre actions unfold.
"...Ninety-eight... ninety-nine... one hundred..."
After finishing his count, the youth lowered his hand and stopped. A faint, enigmatic smile crossed his face.
Then, he spoke.
"Honestly," the youth said, spreading his arms wide as if inviting them for a hug, "the Divine Order Church—Bishop Mozel included—has always been the epitome of providence for me, the perfect pillow right when I’m feeling sleepy."
"How could I not adore you for that?"
"But, as it stands, I have more pressing matters to attend to. So, please, step aside."
"What madness are you spouting now, Lin—"
The Divine Order Church's Extraordinary was just about to retort when a voice suddenly echoed across the mountain range.
"Run... now!"
The voice carried a hint of chaos, as though its owner was enduring unimaginable pain.
It was the voice of the Third Princess, Yveste.
In an instant, an overwhelming wave of killing intent surged through the air, engulfing everyone present.
The sheer intensity of it made them feel as though they had fallen into an icy abyss, their lives hanging by a thread, as if they might be slaughtered at any moment.
Instinctively, they turned toward the source of the violent, oppressive aura.
"Get out of my way."
The youth’s expression had twisted into one of rage, his features contorted with an almost uncontainable malevolence.
It was as though some dark, evil force within him was on the verge of breaking free.
"You’re blocking my path," he growled.
