Stop Hypnotizing Me, Villainous Princess!
Chapter 40: Praying to Yveste from 10,000 Years in the Future?Chapter 40: Praying to Yveste from 10,000 Years in the Future?
In the original story, among the numerous deities, if one were to determine the strongest—excluding the protagonist at the finale—there seemed to be only one: Yveste.
She was the undisputed ultimate antagonist, bringing endless despair to the protagonist's party.
How terrifying was she in the later stages?
Consider her titles:
- The Shadow of Despair at the End of the River of Death
- The Supreme Existence That Hunts the Gods
- The Witch of Destruction and Ruin Who Brings the World to Its End
Her achievements matched these lofty epithets.
As the Witch of Destruction, she was the harbinger of Ragnarok, the gods’ twilight. In the late-stage power creep of the story, she personally hunted countless gods, absorbing their divinity as nourishment.
Her power was so immense that even after the protagonist defeated her, she couldn’t be truly killed.
The combined forces of the gods could only seal her in a pantheon.
Much later, after thousands of years, an entire planet was forged into a magical weapon—a Damocles Sword—that detonated in a stellar explosion to finally annihilate her.
Yveste’s power was one aspect of the original novel that fans unanimously agreed upon.
Some even fantasized about her being “redeemed” and added to the protagonist’s harem. After all, once she became the protagonist’s wife, her strength would no longer be a threat and would instead become an asset.
Thankfully, the author resisted such a ridiculous trope.
Lynn sighed at the thought.
To be honest, if possible, aligning with "Destruction" as a faith would be the ideal choice.
The Divine Factors granted by this faith were undoubtedly the strongest in the story—absurdly overpowered. Though Yveste had very few followers and most of her divine power was stolen, the abilities she bestowed were unparalleled.
Lynn couldn’t recall all the specifics, but he remembered one key point: these factors could amplify an Extraordinary’s abilities by three to ten times while adding annihilation properties.
Outrageous.
The thought made Lynn tempted.
The problem, however, was that the faith of “Destruction” didn’t exist at this point in time.
It wouldn’t emerge until approximately 10,000 years later, when the world transitioned into a dark, post-apocalyptic setting following Ragnarok.
Lynn couldn’t exactly travel to the future and pray to the Yveste of that era, could he?
He sighed internally.
But then, an idea struck him.
Wait a second!
Lynn suddenly recalled a scene from the original novel.
At one point, the protagonist, trapped in dire circumstances, used a holy relic to summon a deity from an ancient era. Miraculously, the call succeeded, saving the protagonist.
Though it might have been partly due to the protagonist’s plot armor, its presence in the novel implied it was feasible.
If prayers could traverse time to reach the past, there was no reason they couldn’t reach the future.
Moreover, the novel described the ritual in great detail, and Lynn still remembered the general process. It wasn’t particularly complicated.
The key to success was that the protagonist had a holy relic tied to the deity.
Lynn’s heartbeat quickened.
His interest in the “Destruction” faith wasn’t solely due to its power. It was also his best option in his current situation.
Activating this faith would make him its sole follower.
No one could uncover his abilities’ true source, and he could deceive others by pretending to use different faith-based powers.
More importantly, this wouldn’t bind him too deeply to Yveste.
At this point in time, Yveste had yet to ascend to godhood. The faith of “Destruction” didn’t exist in the world—not even a hint of it.
Additionally, as a "Godforsaken" individual shunned by most major faiths in the Saint Roland Empire, Lynn had few paths to becoming an Extraordinary again with significant power.
His only other option would be to betray humanity and turn to ancient demon worship—a suicidal path.
Thus, “Destruction” offered the perfect blend of power, secrecy, and legitimacy.
Yveste of the present wouldn’t know about her future self, and her future self couldn’t alter the past.
Lynn could exploit this gap in information to his advantage.
If things ever went south, he could always cut ties—just as gods could abandon their followers, followers could switch allegiances.
Many high-ranking Extraordinaries had done just that, seeking greater power.
With his motivation set, Lynn now needed a method.
To replicate the protagonist’s ritual, he’d need the same prerequisite: a holy relic.
Sipping his tea, Lynn pondered deeply.
In his past life, relics often referred to sacred Christian artifacts, like the Shroud of Turin.
Such items were considered relics due to their proximity to a divine presence, carrying traces of its power and essence.
Ultimately, relics were defined by their believers.
They could be mundane objects left behind by a deity before ascension, later shrouded in legend and mystery.
Some relics possessed extraordinary abilities, while others were purely symbolic.
Lynn’s thoughts coalesced into a realization.
If relics were tied to divine proximity, then any item imbued with Yveste’s extraordinary power or life essence could potentially qualify as a relic to communicate with her future self.
It’s worth a try, Lynn thought.
---
“Creak—”
The door to the lounge opened, snapping Lynn out of his thoughts.
He looked up to see Kesha standing at the entrance.
“Her Highness has finished her meeting and wishes to see you,” the elderly housekeeper said without expression.
Suppressing his swirling thoughts, Lynn nodded, grabbed the stack of Extraordinary Contracts, and stood.
Kesha’s gaze lingered on the contracts briefly, a glimmer of surprise flickering in her eyes.
Under her guidance, Lynn soon arrived at the study.
As they approached, the door swung open, revealing a middle-aged man in clerical attire gripping the handle with a dour expression.
“Please, Your Highness, reconsider our church’s proposal,” he said grimly.
“Get out.”
The icy voice from within the study carried an undertone of menace.
Classic Yveste, Lynn thought.
Her willingness to bark orders at clergy from one of the Empire’s three major churches was entirely in character.
Lynn even wondered if one day she’d speak to Saint Roland VI, her own father, in the same way.
Once the Divine Order Church’s envoy disappeared down the corridor, Kesha signaled for Lynn to enter the study.
Inside, Yveste’s face still carried a trace of anger.
Lynn bowed respectfully, careful not to aggravate her mood further.
I’m here to bring good news, not to get caught in the crossfire, he thought wryly.
Seeing him, Yveste’s cold demeanor softened slightly.
“What is it?” she asked.
