Shanque returned very soon.
When she returned, several people followed her.
Among them were Falcon and Mountain Eagle, whom Luo Ziling knew, and a few others he didn’t recognize.
Besides Shanque, who was still in camouflage military uniform, the rest were in casual clothes.
Their expressions were solemn, their faces taut, and their footsteps light as they walked.
In Mountain Eagle’s hands was a bunch of flowers, not the common roses or carnations but wild chrysanthemums; Ziling wasn’t sure whether they were bought from a store or picked from the wild. The others also held something in their hands: food and drink, fruits, and some nourishing products.
Seeing Shanque followed by five or six people, Luo Ziling paused briefly before he stood up.
“They wanted to come and see Kong Que,” Shanque explained with a touch of embarrassment, “There were others who wanted to come, but I stopped them.”
“With so many of you coming, we might as well alert the police,” joked Luo Ziling before speaking seriously, “She’s still sleeping, no longer in immediate danger, but I can’t guarantee there won’t be complications.”
“They just want to see what Kong Que looks like now, can they go in to have a look?” Shanque asked Luo Ziling in a soft voice, “If they can’t, then never mind.”
“I’ll go in and check first,” said Luo Ziling as he got up and went into the room without waiting for the others to react.
After a short while, he poked his head out and signaled those who came to see Lin Lan to enter silently, without making a sound.
Following Luo Ziling’s instructions, they lined up and entered quietly, and left without making a sound as well.
When he came back to the living room, Luo Ziling explained directly, “After the critical period in the next few days, I hope to arrange a quiet place for her to recuperate. I will take responsibility and continue treating her until she’s fully recovered.”
After thinking it over, he added, “I’d better contact your leaders directly to make requests.”
“I’ll handle this matter,” Mountain Eagle nodded at Luo Ziling, “I’ll personally ask our leaders, and I believe they will agree.”
“You all should head back now, she needs rest,” Luo Ziling hesitated momentarily, then issued the order for them to leave, “If there’s nothing important, don’t come visit. Wait until she’s healthy again to see her.”
“All right,” Falcon, who seemed to be the leader, agreed on behalf of the others, then stepped forward and patted Luo Ziling’s shoulder firmly, sincerely expressing his gratitude, “Thank you very much for your help.”
Falcon approached Luo Ziling, imitating Mountain Eagle, and patted Luo Ziling’s shoulder, “No need for many thanks, we consider you a brother.”
Luo Ziling also patted the shoulders of Mountain Eagle and Falcon, smiling, “Right, we’re brothers, who can share life and death from now on.”
The two men patted Luo Ziling back, then stepped back, stood straight, and gave Luo Ziling a formal military salute.
The others, including Shanque, saluted Luo Ziling as well. It was the highest honor for a soldier—Ziling was very aware of this. Seeing a group of Dragon Rise team members saluting him at once, he felt an incredible sense of pride.
After Mountain Eagle left with the others, Shanque whispered to Luo Ziling, “Our captain might come by to see her in a little while. If there’s anything, you can talk to her. May she come and have a look?”
“Phoenix?”
Shanque just nodded and did not say much.
“Alright, let her come then,” Luo Ziling didn’t refuse.
Feng Huang arrived as the sky was darkening.
When she arrived, Luo Ziling was treating Lin Lan, who had regained consciousness again.
Despite repeatedly exhausting his strength to treat Lin Lan, which was very detrimental to his own health, Luo Ziling didn’t care. Lin Lan certainly knew this, as did Shanque.
Seeing Luo Ziling collapse from exhaustion after each treatment, unable to get up from the ground, Shanque felt an urge to cry; she was moved by this man. It was even more so for Lin Lan, who couldn’t help but shed tears, only burying her head in the blanket to conceal the tears that rolled down her cheeks from others.
When Feng Huang entered silently, Luo Ziling didn’t notice because he was fully focused on treating Lin Lan.
After the treatment ended and his body could no longer support him, he fell backwards, landing right on Feng Huang’s feet.
Startled, he struggled to see who it was. Since Shanque was standing within his field of vision, there must have been someone else who came in. However, even the simple act of getting up and turning his head was too much for him; he could only weakly lie across Feng Huang’s feet.
“Captain, he’s exhausted. It’s like this every time after he treats Kong Que,” Shanque explained in a low voice as she saw Feng Huang frown.
Hearing Shanque’s voice, Lin Lan also opened her eyes and, seeing the unmasked Feng Huang, her face showed a look of surprise and delight.
“Don’t move, just lie down,” Feng Huang whispered, stopping Lin Lan’s movement, then bent down to help Luo Ziling up.
“I’ll do it; I’m the one who always carries him to bed. He doesn’t even have the strength to get into bed to rest,” Shanque walked over, intending to carry Luo Ziling to another bed for rest.
But Feng Huang acted faster, directly picking up Luo Ziling and placing him on the bed.
“Uh, if you want to fight with me now, you could knock me down with just one finger,” Luo Ziling joked weakly to break the awkwardness, “but I warn you, don’t take advantage of someone in a weak state.”
Feng Huang, surprisingly, wasn’t angry and her gaze towards him even carried a hint of warmth.
“You two go out for a while, let me sleep for a bit. Once I recover some strength, I’ll talk to you,” Luo Ziling was so exhausted he just wanted to sleep, so he asked Feng Huang and Shanque to leave first.
But after saying this, he immediately lay down and fell asleep, not bothering to see if they followed his instructions and left.
About an hour or so later, Luo Ziling woke up needing to urinate. By then, he had regained some of his strength and quickly jumped out of bed, heading for the bathroom.
Lin Lan was also sleeping. Every time Luo Ziling treated her, she couldn’t resist the drowsiness. She had never felt such an overwhelming need to sleep before and couldn’t control it. Now she was completely devoid of her usual reactivity, utterly defenseless, which troubled her.
However, each time she woke up, her body felt a bit better, which delighted her. Therefore, she followed Luo Ziling’s instructions and let herself relax into sleep. When Luo Ziling leapt up, it woke her, but she only opened her eyes to glance around before continuing to sleep.
After dealing with his physiological needs, Luo Ziling tiptoed out of the room only to see Feng Huang sitting on the sofa outside, lost in thought, with Shanque nowhere in sight.
“Where’s Shanque?” Luo Ziling walked over to Feng Huang and flopped down beside her.
“She had to leave due to some matters. I’m free today, so I’m staying here.”
“Alright, but you’re not allowed to bully me. I know you’re a woman with a very small amount of patience!”
“…” A murderous aura began to permeate from Feng Huang’s eyes.
