“Nine star heir!”
When this name rang out, it was like thunder through the ranks. The battlefield that was brimming with tension moments ago fell into a stunned silence.
“He is a nine star heir?” asked Jiang Yue’e.
Even Jiang Yue’e couldn’t hide her shock. Her gaze instinctively turned to Feng Fei, searching for confirmation. Feng Fei had never mentioned this to the Jiang clan.
Shaking her head, Feng Fei replied, “Didn’t I already say it? Long Chen cultivates the Starry River of the Sky Art. Furthermore, he managed to infuse his own insights into it, vastly amplifying its potential. Under his guide, the declined Starry River Sect has been reborn and is rising rapidly. Now, its disciples are spread throughout the nine heavens and ten lands, viewing Long Chen as a god-like figure. Thanks to him, the sect has been brought back to the proper path.”
Feng Fei’s voice grew more serious as she continued, “Long Chen possesses astral energy, dragon blood, seven-color Supreme Blood, and violet blood. You understand what this means.”
Jiang Yue’e nodded after hearing that. She knew what it implied.
Meanwhile, the experts surrounding them remained fixated on the term “nine star heir.” It was a title steeped in legend, a name that represented the pinnacle of power in the nine heavens and ten lands.
At this moment, Long Chen furrowed his brows, looking at Long Zaiye.
“Why are you asking?” counter asked Long Chen.Long Zaiye’s lips curled into a mocking smile. “I was born in the primal chaos era. Back then, I swept through my realm, leaving nothing but destruction in my wake. And during that time, I killed seventeen nine star heirs.”
“What?!”
The crowd erupted. Except for a few people from the four divine clans, the other experts were completely shocked.
Nine star heirs were unrivaled existences, but Long Zaiye had killed seventeen of them? Was this fellow a monster?
Long Zaiye pulled open his leather armor, revealing a chest covered in coarse hair. There, etched across his flesh, was a scar resembling a starry river.
“I killed sixteen nine star heirs without suffering so much as a scratch. But the seventeenth fellow was different. That sword of his nearly split me in two. In the end, though, I still emerged victorious. I severed his head with my own hands. So don’t think that title means anything before me,” sneered Long Zaiye.
Seeing that wound, Long Chen clenched his fists. Though the astral energy in the wound had faded, a powerful will lingered—a will brimming with fury and unyielding defiance.
Long Chen said, “Don’t act like you’re unrivaled under the heavens. If that nine star heir fell to you, it was only because of some sinister trick. If I’m wrong, I’ll offer you my head.”
Long Chen’s audacious words stunned everyone. That was very bold. Could the last nine star heir have been defeated by trickery, not real skill?
Long Zaiye’s expression darkened. Staring at Long Chen, he said, “Nine star heirs are known to be solitary and arrogant. They never ally with others, but I hear you’ve built a legion of your own. That alone sets you apart from the legends. Furthermore, nine star heirs don’t resort to tricks or waste words. Yet here you are, spouting nonsense.”
After pausing for a bit, Long Zaiye continued, “Most importantly, nine star heirs always have starlight around them, but you don’t. That’s why I suspect you’re using the title to bolster your reputation.”
Long Chen furrowed his brows even further. Was Long Zaiye genuinely unable to recognize his identity, or was this some ploy to provoke him?
However, Long Zaiye seemed far too arrogant for such schemes. In any case, his intelligence simply wasn’t sharp enough to orchestrate something like that.
The Earth Cauldron’s voice then resonated in Long Chen’s mind. “Your path has deviated. Other than true nine star heirs, it is essentially impossible for anyone to recognize you. Even the Silver Hair Void Crusher was fooled by your aura.”
Long Chen’s cultivation path had veered off the orthodox course ever since he had formed the Five Star Battle Armor. Now, with the eighth star awakened, his aura bore little resemblance to that of a traditional nine star heir.
Moreover, his body contained so many energies that affected each other in subtle ways. By common knowledge, nine star heirs exclusively relied on astral energy, avoiding any external powers.
This common sense was known by all. This was a universally accepted fact. So, when Feng Fei explained to Jiang Yue’e about Long Chen wielding multiple energies, there was no need for any further explanation.
With a faint smirk, Long Chen started clapping. “Not bad reasoning. But let me set the record straight—I am a genuine nine star heir.”
“What a joke. Even now, you’re still trying to bluff your way through?” scoffed Long Zaiye, his sneer deepening. For him, Long Chen’s insistence only confirmed his suspicion.
“Bluff? I can manipulate the astral energy of heaven and earth itself. If that doesn’t make me a nine star heir, then what am I?” countered Long Chen coolly.
“You truly are ignorant,” snorted Long Zaiye dismissively. “Before the Nine Star Master emerged, countless races had already wielded astral energy. The Heavenly Elephant, the Astral Serpent, the Flying Horse, and the Voracious Monkey clans were all adept at it. Even within the human race, the number of astral energy cultivators was uncountable.
“But after the fall of the nine star line, those races and factions were also affected, wiped out along with the nine star line. Their legacies were thought to have perished alongside them. However, remnants of their inheritance still exist in secret. You’re clearly one of their offshoots!”
Long Chen smiled faintly. Long Zaiye was such a nice guy. Was Long Zaiye deliberately helping him conceal his identity? It seemed he was intent on convincing everyone that Long Chen wasn’t a nine star heir.
“Don’t think having a big head makes you smart. Your head is clearly full of crap. Why are you so desperate to deny that I’m a nine star heir? Are you already making excuses for when you lose to me? Or was it all a lie about you defeating seventeen nine star heirs?” asked Long Chen disdainfully.
At this point, Long Chen no longer cared if his identity was exposed. After all, he had killed the Silver Hair Void Crusher. The death of one of the eight divine commanders would undoubtedly send shockwaves to Lord Brahma.
Even if Lord Brahma didn’t personally take action, any of his remaining divine commanders would be able to expose Long Chen’s identity. And what about Netherdragon Tianfeng? The Nether Emperor, who possessed his body, had been slain by the Nine Star Master in the past. If the Nether Emperor returned, how could he fail to recognize Long Chen’s true identity?
Thus, there was little sense in keeping his status hidden. Dodging one adversary might work, but avoiding them all was impossible. Long Chen decided it wasn’t worth the effort anymore.
Hearing Long Chen’s question, Long Zaiye sneered, “In my eyes, you’re nothing more than an ant—a bug that I’ll crush with ease. But I won’t permit you to elevate yourself by claiming the title of a nine star heir. Otherwise, people might start thinking that the nine star heirs I defeated were as pathetic as you. That would tarnish my reputation and make me a laughingstock.”
Arrogant, truly arrogant.
Without a word, Long Chen started walking toward Long Zaiye. Under the watchful eyes of everyone, his steps were calm, steady, and brimming with confidence.
